A men’s 40-and-over tennis team based out of The Club at Westport in Denver won a state championship in late June and will now compete for a chance to go to the national tournament.

Playing in the highest of the five men’s divisions – the 4.5-plus division -- the Westport-based team captained by Kane Haynes finished the regular season 9-0. It then won five straight matches in Durham for the state title, shutting out an Asheville-based team in the final.

This was the team’s second straight state title. The Westport team will next compete in Mobile, Ala., in late July, against the top teams from eight other Southern states.
