Seth Willis

Post 100's Seth Willis pitched a complete-game one-hitter in a 2-1 win over Gastonia Post 23 Sunday night at Fraley Field in Cherryville.

Seth Willis pitched a complete-game one-hitter and Jared Emory provided just enough offense as Cherryville Post 100 held off Gastonia Post 23 for a 2-1 win in Game 1 of their best-of-5 series Sunday night at Fraley Field in Cherryville.

Willis threw 68 strikes out of his 93 pitches in seven innings of work, striking out eleven Post 23 batters, and walking only one.  The right-hander’s only run allowed was an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning.  Willis faced only 25 Gastonia batters in the game, just four over the minimum 21.

With Willis keeping the Post 23 bats in check, Emory was supplying the offense for Cherryville.  First, he gave Post 100 a 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the bottom half of inning number four.

Two innings later, Emory helped provide the insurance run that Post 100 would need with a big double.  He would advance to third base on Zane Beaver’s groundout, then score on a passed ball.

With the win, Post 100 improved to 21-9 on the season and will travel to Sims Park in Gastonia on Monday for Game 2.  Post 23 dropped to 15-10.
