Post 100 Will Blackburn

Cherryville Post 100’s Will Blackburn delivers a pitch during Tuesday’s Area IV Western Division game with Hickory Post 48 at Fraley Field.  Blackburn pitched six shutout innings in Cherryville’s 8-2 win.  

Will Blackburn pitched six shutout innings and Post 100 defeated Hickory Post 48 8-2 in Area IV Western Division play on Tuesday at Fraley Field in Cherryville.

Blackburn allowed just three hits, while striking out nine and walking five.

Post 100 opened the scoring in the top of the second inning on a Joseph Webb 2-run home run to take an early lead. Collin Robinson’s RBI double later in the frame scored Jacob Hamrick and extended the lead to 3-0.

Cherryville added another run in the home half of the third when Will Fowler singled and later scored on Webb’s run-scoring base hit.

Hamrick tripled to open the bottom of the fourth, then came across with the fifth Cherryville run of the night on a Hickory throwing error on a Landon Hahn bunt to make it 5-0.

In the fifth, Hamrick’s second hit of the night resulted in the sixth run for Post 100. Kanon Willis, who had reached on a one-out double, came in to score.

Robinson connected on his second hit of the game in the sixth and came around to score on an infield error, and a two-out double later in the inning scored Fowler with the eighth run.

Both Post 48 runs came in the top of the seventh inning on back to back RBI singles.

Webb, Robinson, Willis and Hamrick each had two hits to lead Cherryville. Webb drove in three of Post 100’s eight runs.

The win kept Post 100 perfect in the Area IV Western Division at 7-0.

Cherryville 4, York, S.C. 0

Joseph Webb and Noah Huss combined to pitch a one-hitter and give Post 100 a shutout win over York in non-division action on Wednesday night at Fraley Field.

Webb allowed one hit in five innings of work, walking just two and striking out six. Huss threw two hitless innings to close out the victory, striking out one and walking none.

Kanon Willis, Collin Huss, Collin Robinson and Tobias Miller all had RBIs for Cherryville, who improved to 16-7 overall. Miller had two of Post 100’s ten hits.

Post 100 will return to action on Wednesday, June 22 when they play host to Caldwell County Post 29. The completion of an earlier suspended game will begin at 6:30 p.m., followed by the regularly scheduled game.
