EL Girls Basketball Team

The East Lincoln Lady Mustangs recently finished as runner-up in the East Lincoln Winter Jam holiday basketball tournament in Denver.  On Tuesday, the Lady Mustangs improved to 11-2 on the season with a 69-46 win over Fred T. Foard.  The team will look to remain undefeated in Western Foothills 3A Conference play tonight when they host St. Stephens.  

East Lincoln forced a whopping 35 turnovers in Tuesday night’s 74-32 rout of Fred T. Foard in their Western Foothills 3A Conference matchup in Denver.

Led by junior Mason Simmons’ career-high 16 points, the Mustangs built a commanding 35-point lead over the Tigers by the end of the first half. Jackson Fannon, a freshman, added a career-high 14 points for East Lincoln, who improved to 10-2 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

The win, coupled with North Iredell’s loss to Hickory, gives the Mustangs sole possession of first place in the WF3A Conference.

The Mustangs were to host Statesville on Wednesday night in a makeup game, and will play at home again tonight against St. Stephens.

Madison Self and Ginny Overbay each recorded their sixth double-double of the year. Overbay had 18 points, 16 rebounds, 3 steals, an assist and a blocked shot for the Lady Mustangs, while Self added 11 points, 11 boards, 2 steals and an assist. Raven Ross finished with 11 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals and Diamond Ross contributed with 11 points on 4 of 5 shooting and 4 of 5 from the free-throw line. The Lady Mustangs will host St. Stephens tonight.

DJ Danner scored 13 points to lead the Wolves over the Trojans Tuesday night at Lincolnton High School. Will Blackburn added nine points for the Wolves (5-7, 3-0), who have won 5 of their last six games after an 0-6 start. Parker Styborski scored 11 points to lead Bandys (1-2, 3-10). Lincolnton will travel to West Caldwell tonight for a battle for the top spot in the Catawba Valley 2A Conference.

Boys: East Lincoln 90, Statesville 60

Head coach Jon Hancock picked up his 100th win as leader of the Mustangs with a 30-point rout of the Greyhounds at East Lincoln High School.

Freshman Jackson Fannon scored a career-high 20 points, knocking down six 3-pointers for East Lincoln (11-2, 4-0) in a WF3A conference game that was originally scheduled for December 17.

The Mustangs led 43-27 at halftime and continued to build on the lead in the second half.

Drew Bean added 17 points for East Lincoln, while Keandre Walker had 16 and Jeremiah Jones 10. Messiah Robinson had 17 points to lead Statesville (4-4, 1-2).

The Mustangs will be at home tonight against St. Stephens. Statesville travels to North Iredell.
