East Lincoln players celebrate after defeating the Wolves 72-70 in an overtime thriller Wednesday night at Lincolnton High School.  

Jeremiah Jones drove to the basket and dished to Keandre Walker, who then put the ball in the bucket as time expired in the overtime period to give East Lincoln a hard-fought 72-70 come-from-behind win over the county rival Wolves Wednesday night at Lincolnton.

The Mustangs trailed by 8 points with 1:34 to play in regulation before climbing back with full-court pressure defense that resulted in numerous turnovers by the Wolves.

Jones knocked down a pair of free throws with just five seconds remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime.

Drew Bean led East Lincoln with a game-high 25 points. Jones finished with 15 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds for the Mustangs, who are now 13-2 on the season.

Keondre Walker added 14 points for East Lincoln, who will play host to North Iredell tonight in a big matchup of Western Foothills 3A Conference contenders.

Brittain Burney led the Wolves with 18 points, followed by Jacob McGill and Will Blackburn who added 16 points each.

The Lincolnton boys home game against Maiden scheduled for tonight has been postponed until January 19.

The Lady Mustangs (12-2, 4-0) overcame a slow start to defeat the Lady Wolves in Wednesday’s non-conference matchup at Lincolnton High School.

Ginny Overbay led East Lincoln with 18 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals and 3 assists. Hailey McFadden recorded a double-double, scoring 10 points and pulling down 10 boards.

Alexis Hough scored 13 points to lead Lincolnton (3-9, 0-3).

East Lincoln will host North Iredell tonight in a WF3A matchup, while the Lady Wolves return to Catawba Valley 2A Conference competition when they play host to Maiden.

Will Blackburn led the way for the Wolves (6-8, 4-1) with 18 points, while Jacob McGill added 12 and Eian Stancil 11 in the CVAC win at East Burke. Logan Coffey scored 19 and Ian Cox 13 to lead the Cavaliers (1-11, 1-3).
