Jaden Angle has been named the next head football coach at Lincolnton High School.
The 28-year-old was approved for the position by the Lincoln County School Board at Tuesday night’s meeting.
Angle was a key member of the 2011 2A state runner-up team that lost to a Todd Gurley led Tarboro squad 39-36. He has served as the defensive coordinator for the last two seasons, and has been a member of the coaching staff for six years.
“It means the world to me. This program had a huge impact on me when I was in high school,” Angle said when asked what it meant to take over a historic program that is in the top 10 in the state all-time with over 650 wins.
“It is something I’ve been preparing for for some time now, so even though I’m young I’m confident and excited to get started,” said Angle. “I know I have things to learn that can only come from on-the-job experience, but that is why it’s important for me to have trusted mentors to help guide me.
Angle takes over for the retiring David Byrd. In two seasons, Byrd guided the Wolves to a record of 10-13. He went 8-6 in Catawba Valley 2A Conference play, and led the team to the second round of the 2A state playoffs last season.
Angle becomes the youngest head coach at Lincolnton in more than 50 years.
“I plan to bring an unwavering commitment to success,” said Angle. “By God’s grace, I will lead in a way that gets that absolute best out of my players day in and day out.”
My long term vision for this program is to establish and sustain a culture of winning. A culture that produces winners in the classroom, on the field, and in life.
Angle will bring strong leadership, organization, and high expectations of his players to the program according to Lincolnton High School principal Scott Carpenter.
“I am confident he will continue the successful tradition of Lincolnton Football. Coach Angle is tenacious, spirited, and displays the true grit of a champion,” Carpenter said.
The Wolves will open the 2023 season on August 18 when they travel to South Point.
