WL Chloe Norman vs Cramer

West Lincoln’s Chloe Norman arrives at second base safely as the Stuart Cramer second baseman attempts to get a force out.

BELMONT—West Lincoln’s strong run in the Toyota of Gastonia Spring Break softball tournament ended Tuesday night with a loss to Stuart Cramer in the championship game.

The Lady Rebels were in the game until the late innings when the Storm pulled away for an 8-0 win before a good crowd at South Point High School.

Stuart Cramer led 2-0 after five innings but pushed across two in the sixth and four in the seventh to complete its title run.

West Lincoln (11-7) had scoring chances in the early frames against Stuart Cramer pitcher Emma Donaldson but failed to break through.

The best chance came in the bottom of the fourth. Gracie Elmore bounced a lead-off double off the fence in left field but was left stranded at third as Donaldson pitched out of difficulty.

Again, in the bottom of the fifth, West Lincoln got the lead-off batter aboard and could not cash in.

The game-defining hit came in the top of the sixth when Stuart Cramer’s Delani Wilson smashed a two-run home run to left off West Lincoln’s Harlie Burton, giving the Storm a 4-0 lead.

Five players collected two hits each for Stuart Cramer (10-7), who punched out 13 hits for the game, four for extra bases.

West Lincoln’s six hits were spread among six batters. Elmore had the lone extra-base hit.

Stuart Cramer and West Lincoln won two games Monday to advance to the finale. Cramer defeated Cherryville 8-4 and Kings Mountain 4-2, while West Lincoln edged Forestview 3-2 and rolled past South Point 14-2.

In the postgame awards ceremony, Payton Conroy of Stuart Cramer was named tournament MVP. Donaldson, Wilson and Hadley Womack earned all-tournament honors from the Storm.

Chole Norman and Stacia Cowan were named all-tournament from West Lincoln.
