The East Lincoln Lady Mustangs clinched the South Fork 2A Conference softball championship on Thursday with two games remaining on their regular-season schedule.

Just two days after suffering their first loss of the season, East Lincoln avenged that defeat with a convincing 8-0 win over the West Lincoln Lady Rebels in Denver.

Leah Correll pitched a complete-game shutout, allowing seven hits, while striking out seven and walking four.

The Lady Mustangs (11-1) scored seven of their eight runs on the day in the first three innings of play to take control of the contest.

Leadoff hitter Taliyah Thomas homered and singled for East Lincoln, and Katelynn Crowe drove in a pair of runs. Eight different East Lincoln batters hit safely in the game.

Bailey Huss went 3 for 4 at the plate to lead the Lady Rebels.

By clinching the SF2A championship outright, the Lady Mustangs locked up the conference’s number-one seed for playoff purposes. East Lincoln will close out the regular season this week with a home and away two-game set on Tuesday and Thursday with Lake Norman Charter.

West Lincoln, who finds themselves in a battle for the number-two spot for the upcoming playoffs, will face North Lincoln at home on Tuesday, before a trip to Pumpkin Center on Thursday to end the regular season.
