Post 100 Meeting on Mound

Post 100 head coach Bobby Reynolds talks with his team during Game 2 of their best-of-5 series against Mint Hill on Thursday.

Cherryville Post 100 completed a three-game sweep of Mint Hill Post 555 with an 8-5 Game 2 victory at Fraley Field on Thursday evening, followed by a 9-0 rout in Game 3 on Friday night at Independence High School in Mint Hill.

With the series win, Cherryville will next face Rutherford County Post 423 in this week’s Area IV Finals that is scheduled to be a best-of-3 series beginning on Wednesday in Cherryville.

Rutherford County defeated Queen City 18-6 on Saturday evening to close out a 3-1 series win.

In Thursday’s pivotal Game 2, Post 100 overcame a three-run deficit to take a 2 games to none lead in the Area IV semifinal series.

Trailing 5-2 after 3-1/2 innings, Cherryville picked up a single run in the bottom of the fourth on a RBI single from Will Heavner to trim the lead to two.

Post 100 then took control of the contest with a big four-run inning in the home half of the fifth.

First, Landon Hahn singled to lead off the inning. After he advanced to second base on a wild pitch, Brett Mason reached first on a dropped third strike.

Following an infield error that loaded the bases, Collin Robinson delivered a RBI single that tied the game at five all.

After Zane Brockman drew a two-out walk that loaded the bases up again, Heavner delivered once more with a two-run single that scored Brockman and Noah Huss to put Cherryville back on top 7-5.

Post 100 added an insurance run in the sixth when Hahn delivered with another base hit and later scored on a bunt laid down by Robinson.

Brockman then retired Mint Hill in order in the seventh to close out the Game 2 win for Cherryville and give them a 2-0 series lead heading into Game 3 on Friday back in Mint Hill.

Brockman pitched two scoreless innings for Post 100 to pick up the win. The Kings Mountain product gave up just one hit in those two innings of work, striking out four and walking none.

Offensively, Heavner went 3 for 4 at the plate and drove in four runs to lead Cherryville. Hahn added a pair of hits for Post 100 and scored twice, and Robinson had a pair of RBIs.

First baseman Wilson Lohler (Independence High School) went 3 for 4 at the plate with 3 RBIs and two runs scored to lead Mint Hill.
