A night after losing a heartbreaker on the road in game one of the first round of the Area IV playoffs, Lincoln County responded with a commanding 7-0 win over Burke County in game two on Wednesday.
Andrew Patrick cruised on the mound all night for Lincoln County, finishing just one out away from a no-hitter. While only giving up the one hit, the tall righthander finished with nine strikeouts, keeping Burke County hitters guessing all night, utilizing his fastball, slider, and changeup.
The Cardinals put together 10 hits in game two, led by David Borges who had four singles on the night to lead the team. Zach Horton and Gabe Duncan also did their part for Lincoln County with two hits each.
Lincoln County took the lead in the second inning. Horton gave the Cardinals a base runner with a deep one-out double, then Nate Callahan stepped up and was able to score Horton on a RBI groundout.
The Cardinals added two more runs in the second inning on a bases-loaded walk, and a bases-loaded hit by pitch.
Lincoln County kept the runs coming in the fifth inning. Jackson Farnsworth and Horton led off the inning with doubles, trading bases with each other. Horton would later score on a passed ball to give the Cardinals the 5-0 lead.
The runs kept pouring for Post 455 in the sixth inning, when Matty Jorgensen crushed a RBI triple to center field, scoring Borges. Jorgensen later came in to score in the inning on a RBI groundout from Logan Philemon.
Dylan Shelton came up to plate for Burke County with two outs in the seventh inning. With two strikes, he was able to poke a bloop single to center field to end Patrick’s no-hit bid. Patrick then recorded a fly out to left field to finish his complete game.
Patrick picked up the win for Lincoln County, while Brycen Seymore took the loss for Burke County.
The two teams were scheduled to play Game 3 Thursday at 7 p.m. at Shuey Park in Morganton.

Just one day after getting shut out at East Lincoln High School, Burke County’s Josh Maddux returned the favor with a shutout win win over the Cardinals at Shuey Field in Morganton.
Matt Jorgensen and Zach Horton had doubles for the Cardinals.
With the loss, Lincoln County Post 455 now trails the best-of-5 series 2 games to 1, and will face a must-win situation in tonight’s Game 4 at East Lincoln.
