Catherine “Cathey” Hollifield Finger

Catherine “Cathey” Hollifield Finger, age 67, of Oak Grove Church Road in Lincolnton, died on Thursday, September 5, 2019.

 Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2019, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Monday from 12:00 until 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home. 

 Cathey was born October 12, 1951, in McDowell County, to the late James and Mary Norton Hollifield.  

 Those that are left behind include her husband, James “Jim” Finger of the home; a son, Jason Finger of Lincolnton; and a sister, Judy Turner, and husband Dwight, of Lincolnton.

 Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC  28092.

 Shirley Temple Gilbert Hawkins

Shirley Temple Gilbert Hawkins, age 84, of Trinity Ridge, and formerly of Lincolnton, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, September 6, 2019.

 Her funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, September 9, 2019, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tim Shook officiating.  Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:45 until 3:15 p.m. at the funeral home.

 Shirley was born April 29,1935 in Lincoln County, to the late Forrest and Ethel Rudisill Gilbert.  Her husband, Roy Lee Hawkins, also preceded her. She worked in textiles.  Shirley was a faithful member of Fairview Baptist Church in Lincolnton.

 She is survived by two sons, Jerry Hawkins, Sr. of the home, and Michael Roy Hawkins (Judy) of Hickory; two daughters, Deborah Wilson (Harold) of Maiden, and Faith Ingle (Timothy) of Lincolnton; a sister, Rachel Jones of Lincolnton; eight grandchildren, Christiana Ingle of Lincolnton, Shasta Mejia of Hickory, Trevor Wilson of Maiden, Chelsea Hawkins of Sevierville, TN, Matthew Hawkins of Hickory, Michael L. Hawkins, of Lincolnton, Jerry Hawkins, II, of Troutman, and Melissa Pressley; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

 Memorials may be made to the South Fork Baptist Association “Ramp Ministry”, P.O. Box 246, Lincolnton, NC  28093-0246.

 James David Eaker, Jr.

James David Eaker, Jr., age 63, of Green Acres Road in Lincolnton, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Friday, September 6, 2019.

 His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Hull officiating.  Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

 David was born April 7, 1956, in Lincoln County, to the late James David Eaker, Sr., and Gail Gaffney Eaker.  He worked as a supervisor in welding.

 Those remaining to honor his memory are his wife, Elaine Cox Eaker of the home; a son, James “Darren” Eaker of Miami, FL; a daughter, Tiffany Elaine Eaker of Lincolnton; two sisters, Gwen E. Ballard of Shelby and Rhona Cathey, and husband Rick, of Weaverville, NC; two grandchildren, Jada Bell and Keegan Bell; his father-in-law, G. Richard Cox, and wife Marge of Lincolnton; sister-in-law, Lou Ann Davis, and husband, Gary, of Lincolnton; brothers-in-law, Richard “Rick” W. Cox of Crouse, and Gene Walters of Crouse; a number of nieces and nephews; and his loving dog, “Buster”.

 Dan Andrew Auton

Dan Andrew Auton, age 79, of E. Highway 150 in Lincolnton, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019.

 A memorial service will be held at a later date.

 Dan was born February 17, 1940, in Lincoln County, to the late Martin and Ruth Keener Auton.  He worked for Central Carolina Sprinkler Systems. 

 He is survived by his wife, Geraldine “Deanie” Williams Auton of the home; and a son, Shane Auton, and wife Leslie, of Denver.

 Kathleen Gayle Cunningham

Kathleen Gayle Cunningham, age 66, of Angela Court in Lincolnton, died on Friday, September 6, 2019.

 A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2019, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ben Kifer officiating.  The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, prior to the service at Warlick Funeral Home.

 Kathy was born March 12, 1953 in Atlantic County, New Jersey to the late John Andrew and Katheryne Biggs Cunningham.  Kathy was a dedicated public educator for 34 years. She retired from Upper Township Middle Schools in New Jersey where she was a home economics teacher. After retiring, she moved to North Carolina to be closer to her family and took on a new role as a caregiver at Abernethy Laurels.  Her greatest joys in life were doing things for others. Kathy was very gifted, and loved sharing her many talents with her students, friends and family.  She had a kind, loving, giving spirit and will be missed greatly by those who knew and loved her.

 She is survived by two sisters, Sallianne Harris and husband Kim of Lincolnton; Bonnie Cunningham of Batesburg, SC; one brother, Jack Cunningham and wife Caroline of Leesville, SC; two special nieces, Katie Abernathy and husband Clay of Iron Station; Emily Harris and fiancé, Derek Thom of Cherryville; three great-nephews, Hunter, Riley and Preston Abernathy; and her special teacher family from Upper Township Middle School.

 In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 310 West Church Street, Cherryville, NC 28021.

 Garland Wayne Hipps

Garland Wayne Hipps, 67, of Morganton passed away September 5, 2019.

A memorial service to celebrate Wayne’s life will be held September 13, 2019 at 5 p.m. at Crawford Annex Building in Hickory. The family will receive friends following the service.
