 Catherine “Cathy” Jones Caldwell

Catherine “Cathy” Jones Caldwell, 61, of Maiden passed away November 10, 2019.

 A memorial service to celebrate Catherine’s life will be held November 16, 2019 at Bennett Funeral Service Chapel, in Newton, NC at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends following the service at Bennett Funeral Service Chapel.

 Shirley H. Martin

Shirley H. Martin of Lincolnton, NC passed away November 14, 2019.

She was born on February 4, 1937 in Lincoln County.  She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Franklin Dee Martin, her parents Andrew and Maude Hawkins, her only sister Margaret Biggerstaff, and her two brothers Earl Hawkins and Ralph Hawkins. 

Survivors include her beloved daughter Kelly Martin Radford, son-in-law Bruce A. Radford, and granddaughter Alexandra Leigh Radford of Apex, North Carolina. Survivors also include brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Gary and Susie Martin, Billie Martin, Carol Martin, Mary Alice Cook, and multiple nieces and nephews.

Shirley was a retired AT&T (formerly Southern Bell and Bellsouth) employee.  She worked in the engineering department in Charlotte, North Carolina for over 32 years.

A grave side service is planned for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 17th at Hollybrook Cemetery in Lincolnton, North Carolina.

The family would like to send a special thank you to Transitions Life Care in Raleigh, North Carolina for the excellent level of care and support she and her family received during this difficult time.

 Sue “Susie” Arnett Davis

Sue “Susie” Arnett Davis, age 72, of Horseshoe Drive in Mt. Holly, died on Wednesday, November 13, 2019.

Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 16, 2019, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jeff Rushing officiating.  Burial will follow at 4:00 p.m. in Sharon Memorial Park in Charlotte.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. 

Sue was born September 8, 1947, in Johnson City, Tennessee, to the late John Arnett and Juanita Curtis Colyer.  She worked in reservations for Eastern Airlines, and was also the co-owner of D & L Waste. 

She is survived by a niece, Sonja Johnson of Newton; and a nephew, Bobby Short of Denver.  Left to cherish her memory are Vickie and John Jenkins, Lisa, Bengy and Seth Sigmon, Donnie and Clint Fisher, Donnie and Amy Simpson, and David and Rhonda Simpson.

  Walter “Buck” Edgar Ballard, Jr.

Walter “Buck” Edgar Ballard, Jr., age 98, of South Madison Street in Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, November 13, 2019.

His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2019, at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Eddie Yount officiating.  Burial will follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. at the church.

 “Buck” was born November 21, 1920, in Lincoln County, to the late Walter Edgar Ballard, Sr. and Annie Hovis Ballard.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Beulah Yoder, Bessie Ballard, James Ballard, Lilly Hoke, Ruth Yarborough, Vera Ballard, Fred Ballard, Lee David Ballard, Roberta Broome, and Sybil Wease.  “Buck” served in the United States Army during World War II where he received a Purple Heart.  Afterwards, he worked as a bookkeeper for Gilbert Beauty Supply in Charlotte. 

He is survived by nieces and nephews, Donald Ballard, Bill Ballard, Marcella Justice, Becky Mitchem, Fred Ballard, Jr., Sharon Burns, Teresa Lail, June Jarrett, and Rita Mize.

Memorials may be made to Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, PO Box 441, Lincolnton, NC  28092.

Mr. Larry Alexander Graham, 59, passed away Monday, November 11, 2019, at the Cardinal Healthcare Center in Lincolnton, NC. Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 17, 2019, 3:00 p.m., at New Life Baptist Church, Concord, NC. Visitation will be one hour prior to services, Interment will be in the Veterans Administration Cemetery in Salisbury, NC(to be announced at funeral services). W.H. Bryant, A.E. Grier & Sons Funeral Home of Mooresville, NC is serving the Graham family.
