Cherryville - Mrs. Betty Iler Porter

Cherryville - Mrs. Betty Iler Porter, 81, of 110 Suncrest Road, passed away on Thursday, May 9 2019 at her residence.

Mrs. Porter was born on April 1, 1938 a daughter of the late Jeff Iler and Izaine Sain Iler.  She was retired as a cafeteria worker from Gaston County School System.  Mrs. Porter was a member of First Baptist Church in Cherryville where she served in many capacities over the years.  

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Donald Jerry Porter, Sr.; a son, Donald J. Porter, Jr.;  three sisters, Mary Jo Carpenter, Margaret Johnson and Evelyn Gilbert.

Survivors include  two sons, James Porter and wife Gwen of Lawndale and Robbie Porter and wife Tonya of Cherryville; one daughter, Tonya P. Willis of Cherryville; a sister, Frankie Short of Cherryville; a brother, Hoyet Iler of Stanley; five grandchildren, Matthew Willis, Tiffany McKee, James Porter, Jr., Macie Deaton and Charlie Porter and three great grandchildren, Landon and Karlee McKee and Renlee Deaton.

Visitation will be from 4:00PM to 6:00PM on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home and at other times the family will be at the home.

Funeral Services will be held at 3:00PM on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Cherryville with Dr. Vince Hefner officiating.

Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton.

Jerry Franklin Long

Jerry Franklin Long, age 73, of 1942 Rhyne Land Road in Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, May 8, 2019.

His funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jaie Warlick and Chaplain Greg Hager officiating.  Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jerry was born March 20, 1946, in Lincoln County to the late J.D. and Carrie Faulkenbury Long.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters.  Prior to his retirement, he served 18 years at Lincoln County Sheriffs Department in various roles.

He is survived by his loving companion, Joyce Elmore of Lincolnton;  son, Scott Long, and wife Maureen, of Plantation, FL;  daughter, Julie Haupt of Hickory; three grandchildren, Ian McMahon, Hunter Long, and Dakota Long; and special brother, Jerry Lowe of Newton.

Imogene Clanton

Imogene Clanton, 77, of Lincolnton, NC, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, with her family by her side.  Imogene fought a long hard battle with COPD and cancer.  She now is at home with her Savior Jesus Christ.

Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2019, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Spencer and Rev. Dustin Roberts officiating.  Burial will follow in the Webbs Chapel Baptist Church cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:45 until 2:45 p.m. at the funeral home.

Imogene was born February 9, 1942, to the late David R. Clanton and Hattie V. Clanton.  Imogene was a precious mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  She was a member of Webbs Chapel Baptist Church in Lincolnton.  Imogene retired from Emerson Leather in Hickory with 21 years of service.  Imogene was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie A. Carver; sister, Betty L. Moody; and brother, David R. Clanton, Jr. 

She is survived by two sons, Daniel Woodie, and wife Melanie, of Lincolnton, and Michael Woodie, and wife Sherri, of Gastonia; a sister, Patricia V. Carpenter; eight grandchildren, Amy Patterson, and husband Walter, Dustin Roberts, and wife Julia, Keith Woodie, Josh Roberts, and wife Amy, Ashley Woodie, Starr Tate, Eric Tate, and Kassie Woodie; and three great-grandchildren, Nathaniel Patterson, Natalie Patterson, and Noah Roberts.

Edward Hewitt “Hick” Hickman

Edward Hewitt “Hick” Hickman, 84, of Vale triumphantly entered his heavenly home on Tuesday, May 7, 2019 at his residence.

 He was born June 4, 1934 in Catawba County to the late Ben Bartley Hickman and Edna Hewitt Hickman. Hewitt “Hick” retired from Southern Furnitures and enjoyed many years of farming, gardening and traveling.

 In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Morris Ben Hickman and son, Bartley Daniel Hickman.

 Those left to cherish his memory are; Wife of 42 years: Margaret Gilbert Hickman of the home, Son: Eddie Hickman and wife Joan of Vale, Daughters: Vickie Nelson and husband Ed of Mint Hill, Sheree Hickman of Newton, Brother: William “Dick” Hickman and wife Kathleen of Baltimore, MD, Sister: Shirley Hickman Johnson and husband Allen of Newton, Grandchildren: Luke Hickman and wife Pinky of New Mexico Ben Hickman and wife Aira of Hawaii, Rebekah Newton of Lincolnton. Great-Grandchildren: Thalia, Abigail, Zeke, Skylir and Alexa.

 A service to celebrate Hewitt’s life will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 4:00 p.m. at Plateau United Methodist Church in Vale. Rev. Dave McHale will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 9, 2019 from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. at Plateau United Methodist Church.

Virginia “Doris” Nicholson Piercy, 89 of Maiden passed away May 08, 2019.

A homegoing service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held May 13, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Glendale Street Church of Christ in Newton. Burial will follow at Washington Park Cemetery in Conover. The family will receive friends May 13, 2019 from 1 to 2 p.m. at Glendale Street Church of Christ.
