Ethel Hester Auton

Ethel Hester Auton, age 83 of Lincolnton passed away at her residence on Tuesday, July 23, 2019. Born April 14, 1936 in Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Ivey and Verna Hedgepath Hester. In addition to her parents, husband, Clyde Auton, Jr.; sister, Bessie Reynolds; 2 brothers, Marvin Hester and Ivey Lee Hester preceded her in death.

Left to cherish her memory: 2 Brothers: Lester Hester of Lincolnton & Richard Hester of Lincolnton, Numerous nieces and nephews, A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 25, 2019 at 2:00 PM at St. Matthews United Church of Christ Cemetery.

The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 – 1:45 PM at Burke Mortuary in Maiden.

Matt Hester, Jr.

Matt Hester, Jr., age 23, of Lincolnton, died on Sunday, July 21, 2019.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2019, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kevin Bennett officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2:30 until 3:30 p.m.

Matt was born August 22, 1995, in Lincoln County to Hugh Matthew Hester, Sr. and Heather Bowling Edwards.  He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Ted Bowling; and paternal grandparents, Faye Sigmon and Jim Hester.  He worked at Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Shelby.

He is survived by his father, Hugh Matt Hester, Sr. (Stephanie) of Lincolnton; his mother, Heather H. Edwards (Tommy) of Lincolnton; a sister, Megan Hester of Lincolnton; half-brother, Lucas Hester; two half-sisters, Ella Hester and Ashley Johnson; step-sister, Christy Furr; two nephews, Brantley and Robert Bowles; grandparents, Renee Bowling, Jerry and Betty Snider, Steve and Regina Fredell, and Paula Sisk.  He worked at Wal-Mart Distribution Center in Shelby.

Caleb Andrew Clark

Caleb Andrew Clark age 22, of 921 Tower Road in Vale, died on Sunday, July 21, 2019.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m on Thursday, July 25, 2019, at Open Word Holiness Church, 3153 Blackburn School Road in Newton, with Pastor Matthew Sparks and Pastor Edgar Mullins officiating.  Burial will follow in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Fallston.  His body will be at the church starting at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday until Thursday at 1:45 p.m.   The family will receive friends during this time.

Caleb was born June 20, 1997, in Lincoln County, to William Alex Clark and Chandra Dawn Mullins Clark.  He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Frank and Sarah Clark; and a brother, William Eric Clark. 

He is survived by his mother, Chandra M. Clark of the home; his father, William Alex Clark (MaryAnn) of Cherryville; three brothers, Gavin Lanier of Cherryville, Bailey Lanier of Lawndale, and Chandler Clark of Vale; three sisters, Courtney Clark of Bessemer City, Cheyenne White of Vale, and Anna Grace DiBernardo of Cherryville; maternal grandfather, Edgar Mullins of WV; maternal grandmother, Charlene Mullins of Lincolnton; nieces, Haylie Reep and Kinsley Lanier; and nephew, Tucker Reep.

Helen Lawing Turbyfill

Helen Lawing Turbyfill, 88, of Maiden passed away on Sunday, July 21, 2019 at Atrium Health in Lincolnton.

 She was born June 10, 1931 in Catawba County to the late Tyson James Lawing and Wilma Setzer Lawing.

Helen was a member of Friendly Chapel Baptist Church in Maiden where she served as the church organist and secretary and treasurer for many years. She retired from Lincoln County Schools where she worked as the secretary of East Lincoln High School from 1967 until 1981. Helen enjoyed cooking and raising her family. Friends have described her as a “sweet lady”. Her love for the Lord and her family and friends were evident throughout her life and will be remembered always.

 In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Darris Lee Turbyfill, Sr.

 Those left to cherish her memory are; Son: Darris Lee (DL) Turbyfill, Jr. and wife Darlene of Maiden, Daughter: Regina Turbyfill Pate and husband Grady of Maiden, Grandsons: Taylor Turbyfill and wife Brittney of Catawba,                       Travis Pate and wife Marti of Clemmons, Great-Grandchildren: Mason Turbyfill, Jackson Pate and Lucy Pate.

 A service to celebrate Helen’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at 3:00 p.m.  at Friendly Chapel Baptist Church in Maiden. Rev. Jeff Harris will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 24, 2019 from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.  at Friendly Chapel Baptist Church. Those serving as pallbearers are; Barry Carpenter, Ricky Lawing, Bobby Harris, Steve Dellinger, Ronald Lineberger and Jeff Little.
