Billy Ray Stroupe, Sr.

Billy Ray Stroupe, Sr., 83 of Dallas passed away January 21, 2019.

Funeral services will be held January 27, 2019 at 4 p.m. at Concord United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.

Theda Heavner Beck, 83, passed away on January 19, 2019.

Linda Jean Newton Rudisill

Linda Jean Newton Rudisill, age 66, of Mull Road in Lincolnton, passed away on Tuesday, January 22, 2019.

The family will celebrate Linda’s life by receiving friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 24, 2019, at Warlick Funeral Home. 

Linda was born April 29, 1952, in Gaston County, to the late Earnest L. and Lucy Byers Newton.  She worked as the Human Resources manager for Delta Apparel in Maiden.  Linda enjoyed camping and boating on Lake James.  She was an avid gardener and loved working in her flower garden.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Ernest L. Rudisill of the home; a daughter, Sandi Rudisill Teague of Hickory; a grandson, Dillon Moore of Hickory; two brothers, Avery Newton, and wife Glenda, of Lincolnton, and Ricky Newton of Gastonia; and a sister, Patsy Wood of Lincolnton.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092.

Ronald Essley Chapman

Ronald Essley Chapman, Sr., age 74 of Crouse, NC passed away January 21, 2019 at his residence.  He was born April 4, 1944 in Lincoln County to the late George Cecil and Addie Pauline Sneed Chapman.  He was a retired machinist in the textile industry for many years. 

He is survived by his spouse Betty Ruth Mauney Chapman of the home, one daughter, Kimberly M. Hamilton and husband Isreal of Waco, NC, two sons, Ronald E. Chapman, Jr. of Crouse, NC; David L. Chapman and wife Bobbie Jean of Crouse, NC; seven grandchildren, Amber Smith and fiance Freedom, Ronald Chapman III, and wife Rachel, Kimberly Alder and husband Casey, Amanda Davis and fiance Matt, Samantha Chapman and fiance Curt, Kaylee Mason and husband Daniel, Dustin Ingle and wife Sarah, and Johnny Hamilton and wife Brandy; eight great grandchildren, Aaron Hamilton, Brandon Hamilton, Kylie Dellinger, Treasure Chapman, Tucker Alder, Evaleigh Durham, Scarlett Mason, and Jayden Davis.

 The family will receive friends Friday, January 25, 2019 at Goodin-Drum Funeral Home, 118 S Carolina Avenue, Maiden, NC 28650 from 6pm - 8pm.

Barbara Diane Reynolds Smith

Barbara Diane Reynolds Smith, age 79 of Denver passed away Monday January 21, 2019 at her residence.

Born July 26, 1939 in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late William Thomas and Kitty Bumgarner Reynolds. She was a graduate of Maiden High School. In addition to her parents, 3 brothers, Bill, Gary and Jack Reynolds and 2 sisters, Margaret Biggerstaff & Joyce Gibson preceded her in death.

Left to cherish her memory: Husband: Grady P. Smith of the home, 2 Sons: Marty Smith of Denver; Carroll Smith of Denver, Brother: T.J. Reynolds and wife Barbara of Maiden, 2 Sisters: Debbie Hyler of Lincolnton; Joan Campbell of Lincolnton.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 12:00 noon at Burke Mortuary Chapel in Maiden with Pastor Bill Murphy officiating.

Betty Yoder Huss

Betty Yoder Huss, age 93, of Lincolnton, died Monday, January 21, 2019. 

Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Collins officiating.  Burial will follow in the Daniels Lutheran Church Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Friday in the North Wing of the church from 2:30 until 3:45 p.m.

Betty was born February 9, 1925, to Martin Luther Yoder and Katie Coon Yoder in the Daniels community of Lincoln County.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin R. Huss; a son, Richard Huss; granddaughter, Kylie N. Tucker; brothers, Fred A. Yoder and James H. Yoder; and sister, Mary Ellen Zimtbaum.

Betty graduated from Union High School in 1942 and Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1946.  She started teaching school at Howards Creek and Union, but spent most of her 32-year career at Asbury Elementary School.

Betty was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in many ministries for 65 years.

She married Alvin R. Huss on February 15, 1947.  They celebrated almost 51 years of marriage prior to Alvin’s death in 1998. 

Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Susan H. Boyd (George), Carol H. Wise, and Kate H. Link; grandchildren Sara B. Schrum, David Wise (Charlee), Michael Wise (Abby), and Caleb Link; and great-grandchildren Rachel Schrum, Nathan Schrum, and Brady Wise.  Also surviving are much-loved nephews and nieces. 

Memorials may be made to Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 216 S. Aspen Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
