Betty Scronce Cline, 67, of Newton passed away December 8, 2019.
A service to celebrate Betty’s life will be held today at 1 p.m. at Plateau United Methodist Church in Vale. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends today from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. at Plateau United Methodist Church.

Harry Frederick Wimer, 83, of Conover passed away December 8, 2019.
A memorial service to celebrate Frederick’s life will be held December 12, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service Chapel in Newton.

Anthony Joseph Perry, Jr.
Anthony Joseph Perry, Jr., age 64, of N. Cedar Street in Lincolnton, died on Monday, December 9, 2019.
Anthony was born July 13, 1955, in Lincoln County, to the late Anthony Joseph Perry, Sr. and Georgetta Kistler Perry. He worked in carpet installation.
He is survived by three sons, Anthony Joseph Perry, III, Johnny Robert Lee Link Perry, and Joshua Perry, all of Lincolnton; three brothers, Oscar Perry of Hawaii, Johnny Colvart of Lincolnton, and Gary Owens of Montana; five sisters, Elizabeth Perry and Brenda Perry of Lincolnton, Cindy Perry of FL, Jennifer Perry of Lincolnton, and Gracie Perry of CA; six grandchildren, Anthony Joseph Perry, IV, Malachi Andrew Perry, Lilliana Grace Perry, Joshua Isiah Perry, Nathanie Missiah Lee Perry, and Mya Marie Perry, all of Lincolnton; and nieces and nephews, Johnny R. Cooper, Kizzy R. Cooper, Manuel Maynor, and Lisa Maynor, all of FL, and Brandon Scronce.
Services will be held at a later date.

M.D. (Bud) Morgan
On Friday, December 6, 2019, M.D. (Bud) Morgan, formerly of Lincolnton, loving husband and father of five children, passed away at age 79 in Columbus, MS. Bud was known for his love for his family, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit.
Bud was born on June 8, 1940 in Lincolnton, NC to Dillard and Edna (Ledford) Morgan and graduated from Union High School in Vale, NC. He entered in the United States Air Force in 1959, serving for 22 years and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was married Doris Harper Curry for 33 loving years. Together, they raised two children, Michael and Michelle, in addition to three older children, Terry Youngblood, Donna Jean Curry, and Don Curry.
After retiring from the Air Force, he worked at Weyerhaeuser’s Columbus Pulp and Paper Complex, retiring in 2004. He was very involved in local veterans organizations and was a Life Member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4772, The American Legion Post 69, and The Vietnam Veterans of American Chapter 997. He was also an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Columbus.
Bud was preceded in death by his father, Dillard, his mother, Edna, his wife, Doris, his son, Don Curry, as well as his two sisters and brother, Frankie Sue Williams, Shirley McSwain, and Steve Morgan. He is survived by his four children, Terry (Tammy) Youngblood, Donna Jean (Ken) Jones, Michael (Kathleen) Morgan, and Michelle (Aaron) Butler, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. For the past two years, Bud was given wonderful care by Jackie Ali.
Visiting hours will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11th, 2019 at the Wesley United Methodist Church with funeral service following at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Memorial Gardens Cemetery with full military honors. Honorary pallbearers are John Prater, Phillip Doty, Jerry Gilliam, Becky Watson, Danny Prater, Tim Fields, Marty Rector, Sammie Hinton, and Billy Shaw. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an organization of individuals choice in the memory of M.D. (Bud) Morgan.
Ilease Gilbert Johnson
Ilease Gilbert Johnson, age 100, of Lincolnton Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of the Reepsville Road in Vale, died on Monday, December 9, 2019.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Tommy Lineberger officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Johnson was born August 9, 1919, in Lincoln County, to the late Will and Gertrude Johnson Gilbert. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, William Paul Johnson; daughter, Peggy Conner of Newton; son, Jimmy Johnson of Vale; three grandchildren; four sisters, and three brothers. Mrs. Johnson was retired from Lincoln County Hospital.
She is survived by a son, Max Johnson of Lincolnton; two daughters, Betty Scronce of Vale and Maxine Armstrong, and husband Jerry, of Lincolnton; son-in-law, Max Conner of Newton; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
