Ernest Brooks "Mack" Hoffman

Ernest Brooks "Mack" Hoffman, 78, of Alexis, went home to be with the Lord on December 3, 2019 at Caromont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.  He was born in Mecklenburg County, a son of George Hoffman and Mary Weaver Hoffman.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his spouse Alma Geraldine Main Hoffman and his siblings Pauline Johnson, Sarah Rhyne, Annie Dye, and Minnie Frances Hoffman.  Mack will be remembered as a loving husband and father.  He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and watching sports, but most of all he loved the Lord.  Those left to cherish his memory include his daughter Mary Moore and her husband Michael and two grandsons Timothy and Christopher Moore.  A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019 in the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly.  The family will greet guests for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Interment will follow the service at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Gastonia.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gaston Hospice, 258 E.  Lester Darrell Hager

Lester Darrell Hager, "Jack", 74, of Iron Station, NC. passed away on December 3, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 5, 1943 in Gaston Co. NC., he was the son of the late William Franklin and Viola Rivers Hurley Hager.

Mr. Hager was the owner of the East Lincoln Repair Shop. He loved going fishing at the beach. Besides his parents, Mr. Hager was preceded in death by his siblings; Rachel McMahan, Zula Hager Williams, William Carroll Hager, Kenneth "Red" Franklin Hager and Louise Hager Bailey.

Mr. Hager is survived by his loving wife of 43 years Annemarie Witmer Hager; daughters Freda Elvington and Alexandria Helms ; 5 grandchildren; siblings Frances Hager Reel, Dolly Hager Kennerly, Lena Hager Smith, Dennis "John" Eugene Hager and Glenda Hager Hoffman and many nieces and nephews.

All funeral services will be private. The Good Samaritan Funeral Home of Denver is assisting the Hager Family.

 Martha Wilkinson Bridges

Martha Wilkinson Bridges, age 76 of the Brian Center in Hickory, died on Wednesday, December 4, 2019.

A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2019, at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Rev. David Wyant officiating.  The family will speak with friends following the service.

Mrs. Bridges was born April 11, 1943, in Lincoln County, to the late Avery Lantz Wilkinson and Macie Ballard Wilkinson.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Wilford Eugene Bridges. 

She is survived by two brothers, Alvin Wilkinson, and wife Peggy, and Raymond Lawrence, and wife Ann, of Iron Station; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Gertrude Elizabeth Canipe

Gertrude Elizabeth Canipe, age 80, of Charleston, West Virginia, and formerly of Sherrills Ford, North Carolina, went home to the Lord on Sunday, December 1, 2019 with her family by her side.

Mrs. Canipe was born August 21, 1939, in Rutherford County, NC, to the late Wayne and Lonnie Mae Lutz Lookadoo.  In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Grady Lee Canipe; son, John Ray Caldwell; brother, Willie Lookadoo; sister, Texie Lookadoo; stepdaughter, Janet Rhoney; as well as aunts, uncles, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by two loving daughters, Peggy Mascaro of Charleston, WV, and Barbara Mullins and her husband Dave of Charleston, WV; two beloved stepdaughters, Faye Caldwell of Newton, NC, and Marie Mahala of Maiden, NC; ten adored grandchildren: Chasity (Rick) Bumgarner, Jennifer (Race) Gee, Melissa Abernathy; Jonathan Chatman, Kathleen Chatman, Laura (Cody) Rowlands, David Mullins, Hope Mullins, Misty (Veronica) Hunter, and Brandy Williams; four precious great-grandchildren: Drew Bumgarner, Brooke Lowery, T.J. Abernathy, and Destiny Abernathy; three treasured sisters, Sarah Frye, Rachel Beal, and Polly Travis; as well as her many nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and friends.

Mrs. Canipe was a strong woman, who had overcome multiple health obstacles with the Lord by her side. Besides enjoying the love of her family, her greatest passion was participating in various activities with her friends at Oakridge Healthcare Center. The family will receive friends on Sunday, December 8, 2019, from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home. Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kenneth Lytle officiating.  Burial will follow in the Maiden City Cemetery. 

The family would like to thank Oakridge Healthcare Center, its employees, residents, and their families for the many years of wonderful care provided to Mrs. Canipe. Sincere thanks are also extended to the staff at Select Specialty Hospital for their compassionate care of Mrs. Canipe and the family during her last days.
