Barbara Moore McConnell
Barbara Moore McConnell, age 80, of Greenwood Road in Lincolnton, died on Thursday, December 19, 2019.
Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2019, at Boger City Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Bigham and Pastor Robert Redding officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 1:00 until 2:45 p.m. at the church.
Mrs. McConnell was born May 18, 1939, in Lincoln County, to the late John Walter Moore and Genevieve Hovis Moore. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Louis McConnell; a son, Louis Todd McConnell; and two brothers, John Michael Moore, and Walter Gary Moore. Barbara was a devoted wife who spent her days working beside her husband, and son, at McConnell’s Automotive. She was a loving mother and Nanny who loved her family with all she had. Barbara was a long-time member of Boger City Baptist Church. She was a dedicated Sunday School teacher spending every Sunday in the nursery working with the children. Barbara will certainly be missed by all of those who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie M. Spake of Lincolnton; daughter-in-law, Darlene McConnell of Lincolnton; a sister, Ann Dellinger (Robert) of Crouse; three grandchildren, Lauren Putnam (Bradley), Andrea Dellinger (Brandon), and Brent McConnell (Katie), all of Lincolnton; six great-grandchildren, Kirsten Putnam, Braylon Peach, Kamryn Putnam, Karsyn McConnell, Colt Dellinger, and Charlee McConnell, all of Lincolnton; and sister-in-law, Linda Moore.

Dorus Hal Bess, III
On December 19th, Hal left this life surrounded by his loving family after a long bravely-fought battle with cancer. He entered the Pearly Gates of Heaven where he was greeted by family and friends pain free.
Hal was born September 12, 1951, in Lincoln County. He was preceded in death by his father, Dorus Hal Bess, Jr., mother, Lorene Tillman Bess, and in-laws, Bob and Alda Hoover.
Hal graduated from West Lincoln High School and Gaston College. He was retired from Bridgestone Firestone where he managed the Gastonia store for over thirty years. He was a member of Bess Chapel United Methodist Church.
Hal loved music in his early years and played with rock bands for many years. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. After retirement, he enjoyed farming, working on his tractors, and watching TV with his shadow furbaby Ellie May.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Kathy Hoover Bess, and daughter Abby Bess, of the home; brother, Larry Bess; sister-in-law, Regina (Jeff) Young; nieces, Cameron Young Hurst (Michael), LeeAnna Young Chapman (Nathan); great-nephews, Bennett and Campbell Hurst, and baby girl Chapman to arrive in March.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 22, 2019, at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Alice Day officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state for thirty minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Warlick Funeral Home.

Samuel “Carl” Thompson
Samuel “Carl” Thompson, age 84, of Unity Church Road in Kings Mountain died Saturday, December 21, 2019.
Mr. Thompson was born September 9, 1935 in Lincoln County. He was the son of the late Cone Thompson and Maime Houser Thompson. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Hugh Thompson, Edgar Thompson; sisters, Doris Hughes, Hazel Montgomery and Sarah Clark. Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the US Army. He previously worked for AB Carter.
The funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. Monday, December 23, 2019 at Bess Chapel United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Thompson of the home; sons, Greg Thompson and wife Karen of Gastonia, Steven Thompson and wife Crystal of Kings Mountain and Mark Thompson and wife Stacey of Dallas; grandchildren, Ryan Thompson, Paige Mosier and Kyle Thompson; great granddaughter, Savannah Mosier; brother, Fred Thompson and wife Dot of Summerville, SC; sister in laws, Janice Thompson of Lowell and Sissy Thompson of Lawndale.
