James Dixon (Dick) Robbins

James Dixon (Dick) Robbins, age 85, of Lincolnton, passed away Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Hickory Falls Health and Rehabilitation in Granite Falls.  Dick was born on June 17, 1934 in Caldwell County to the late Spencer Carroll Robbins and Devola Turnmire Robbins.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Spencer Gerald Robins of Clover, SC and Dermont Robbins of Lenoir.  He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Church Robbins.

 Dick was a US Army Veteran who served in Japan as a Cryptographer after the Korean War.  He started his working career at ten years old as a caddy at the Lenoir Gold Course.  His next job was popping corn and taking tickets, etc. at the Center Theatre in Lenoir.  He graduated from Lenoir High School and enjoyed baseball in his youth.  He was an avid sports fan his entire life.  He retired from Bernhardt Furniture Company at age 62 after working over 30 years as the IT Manager.

 Survivors include one daughter, Susan Story and husband Barry of Granite Falls; one son, Chris Robbins of Rutherford College; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Colvin and husband Robert of Granite Falls; one great-grandson, Ellis Colvin; one brother, Dean Robbins of Grover, NC; and several nieces and nephews.

 Survivors also include his current wife, Barbara Robbins of Lincolnton; three step-children, Vonde Caden and husband Jim of Nashville, Joe Cherry III and wife Alison of Charlotte and Lisa Cherry of Lincolnton; seven step-grandchildren, Jordan Caden, Jimmy Caden, Joe Cherry IV and wife Avery, Ben Cherry and wife Megan, Barbara Brafford and husband Thomas, Will Fox and Robert Fox and wife Morgan; and one step-great-granddaughter, Lucy Fox.  Dick is also survived by a dear and devoted family friend, Tom Fox.

 The family will have a private graveside service.

 Samuel Enoch Lowman, Jr.

Samuel Enoch Lowman, Jr., age 74, of Julia Drive in Lincolnton, died on Thursday, August 1, 2019.

 A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, August 5, 2019, at Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Spencer officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium.  The family will receive friends on Monday from 1:30 until 2:30 p.m. at the church.

 Mr. Lowman was born April 29, 1945, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Samuel Enoch Lowman and Edna Courtney Lowman.  In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister, Nancy Lowman Finley.  He was a retired pharmacist, being the former owner of Pharmacy on the Park in Charlotte.

 He is survived by his wife, Sharon Avery Lowman of the home; two daughters, Samantha L. Jeffries, and husband Robert, of Sanford, and Sharon Elizabeth Lowman of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Andrew and Charlie Jeffries; and nephew, Dave and wife Dana and their three children; and his beloved dog, Millie.

Margaret Whitley Lassiter, 77, of Iron Station, NC passed away July 30, 2019.

Funeral services will be private.

 Betty Jo Stamey Keener

Betty Jo Stamey Keener, 83, of Lincolnton passed away August 1, 2019.

Her funeral service was held at 11 a.m. August 3, 2019, at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church.  Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery.  The family received friends from 10 until 10:45 a.m. at the church.
