Union Elementary School has a long history of honoring local veterans on Veteran’s Day. In the past, they opened their doors and offered a hearty breakfast to local veterans, their spouses and families. This has been an annual event which began in the media center with maybe 30 local veterans and has more than quadrupled over the years. This year, it wasn’t safe to have an in-person breakfast – but not honoring local veterans was not an option. Instead, the school held a drive through event. Over 100 veterans received invitations. Those who drove through received a gift certificate to Hardee’s for breakfast and a lawn sign. As they have in years past, First Federal Bank sponsored the event.
