A Lincolnton woman has been charged with identity theft after the alleged unauthorized use of another person’s debit card.
On May 7, the victim filed a report with the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office in reference to the unauthorized use of the debit card. The victim told detectives that she noticed her debit card was missing after a trip to Wendy’s in Denver and, upon examining her bank statement, she discovered several completed and attempted unauthorized transactions. She contacted her bank and reported the items as fraud.
The victim then contacted the Wendy’s restaurant, the last location she knew she had possession of the debit card, and was informed that the card was in the restaurant. Detectives conducted an investigation into the matter and discovered an employee of the Wendy’s, Breiana Lei McAfee, 18, of Lincolnton, was the person responsible for making the unauthorized charges using the numbers from the debit card, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.
McAfee was arrested on June 27 and charged with two counts of obtaining property by false pretenses and two counts of identity theft. She was booked into the Harven A. Crouse Detention Center for processing and released after posting a $15,000 secured bond.
