The West Lincoln community now has a new state-of-the-art medical facility. A grand opening ceremony was held for West Lincoln Family Medicine’s new location at the corner of Highway 27 West and Howards Creek Mill Road in Vale on Tuesday. This new facility has been a long time coming. The rezoning for this location was first proposed in late 2016. The former location of the practice was an approximately 3,800 square-foot facility near the intersection of Highway 27 and Shoal Road, which opened to the public in June 2008.
The practice, which has been headed up by Dr. Jason Glass since Aug. 13, 2008, has grown exponentially since it opened and has been important to the West Lincoln community. The new facility, which is in excess of 9,500 square feet, opened to the first patients on Aug. 5.
“We grew out of the building probably within five to six years of it being open,” Glass said. “This space is well over twice the size. I think, more importantly than that, the architectural company that designed the space has managed it very effectively. It feels even larger than what it is.”
Currently, there are three providers staffing the family practice. Glass is the only physician and there are two nurse practitioners on staff.
“At the trajectory that we’ve been growing, we should continue on a path where we’d have one or two additional providers, doctors or nurse practitioners, over the course of the next five years,” he said. “I would absolutely anticipate another physician at some point.”
The new space has been designed with an effort to bring in natural light. It has 12 exam rooms around the perimeter of the space, as well as two state-of-the-art procedure rooms. There was attention given to privacy in the exam rooms, which is an improvement over the old space where conversations could sometimes be heard between the rooms.
“Practicing in a small community, privacy is really important,” Glass said. “Coming from the old building two weeks ago, having this added space and the way things are orientated, this is a really peaceful and calm space. It’s really awesome that people on the west side of the county can come into a doctor’s office and get primary care in a facility that is every bit as nice as a facility you’d find in south Charlotte. They’re also getting care that’s as good as or better than care they could receive anywhere in the region. That’s a really neat thing for people in a rural community in Lincoln County that is historically underserved.”
Glass, who grew up on a in a small town in Pennsylvania similar to the western side of Lincoln County, said that he’s grateful for the support the practice has received from the community since the beginning.
“The people of the community have put their faith and trust in the care that we’ve provided,” he said. “It’s a real pleasure to take care of people in this community. It makes it easy to come to work every day. It’s very rewarding. We’ve been able to touch the lives of so many people in this community. In many ways, this is home for me.”
The new location of West Lincoln Family Medicine is at 3970 West Highway 27 in Vale. The hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.–5 p.m.
