A Lincoln County man was found dead of a gunshot wound on June 8.

Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to the home in the 4500 block of Highway 16 Business North in response to a call about a subject with a gunshot wound.

Deputies said Robert Lewis Stephens, 71, was in a sitting position on the sofa with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the chest. Deputies checked for a pulse and none was found, according to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office.  

Stephens was pronounced dead at the scene.  Investigation is continuing by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division. No information about what led to the shooting was released by the Sheriff’s Office.
