Members of Keep Lincoln County Beautiful, an organization affiliated with Keep America Beautiful are now dealing with an additional eyesore – sanitary gloves, masks, wipes and other items of personal protection which have been thrown out throughout Lincoln County.

Not only is littering a crime, but inappropriate disposal of the very pieces of personal protection that may carry coronavirus, or another pathogen is downright dangerous. As if having to pick up the traditional items of litter like cups cans, wrappers and cigarette butts isn’t bad enough.

“This morning I picked up a discarded mask on the Rail Trail, so it is beginning to be an issue here in Lincolnton,” Jim Putnam, the KLCB Litter Committee chair. “Littering of any kind is not acceptable especially when it involves COVID-19 waste.”

Members of KLCB are doing this as volunteers and it shouldn’t be done at any risk to their health.
