A Lincolnton man has been charged with felony child abuse after allegedly assaulting a 2-year-old child.
The arrest came after an investigation into reports of a 2-year-old child having severe bruising and other injuries after being brought for treatment at Atrium Healthcare Hospital on Mcalister Road in Lincolnton on Jan. 16.
Michael Scott Constance, 33, was charged with one felony count of child abuse and one misdemeanor count of assault on a child under 12. He received a $40,000 secured bond.
Deputies responded to the hospital where they spoke with medical staff and the mother of the child. According to reports, the child was left alone, at home, with the mother’s live-in boyfriend while the mother briefly left to run an errand. Deputies said that when the mother returned home she noticed severe bruising about the head and face area of the child and immediately took her to the emergency room.
Detectives and Baker District patrol deputies conducted a search warrant at the home of the child in the 2000 block of Barsdale Lane in Lincolnton. After searching the residence and conducting an interview, Detective Jon Propst took Constance into custody.
