The East Lincoln Lady Mustangs softball team’s magical run through the 3A West Playoffs continued on Tuesday with a nail-biting 1-0 eight-inning win over Rockingham County in the first game of a best-of-3 series in Denver.
Tatum Martin and Betsy Eatmon delivered back-to-back singles to begin the bottom of the eighth inning, and after a strikeout and a walk to load the bases, Lyla Haywood’s flyout to center was deep enough to score Martin from third base with the game-winning run.
Senior Leah Correll was again dominant on the mound for East Lincoln. Correll pitched all eight scoreless innings, allowing just five Cougar hits. She recorded only one strikeout on the day, but did not walk a single batter.
Martin finished the game going 3 for 4 at the plate, scoring the game’s only
