The Lincoln County Family YMCA’s 2019 Keith Turner Memorial Concert will be held on Saturday at 7 p.m. featuring Terri Gore. This is a free community event to be held outside, at the pavilion across the street from the Lincolnton YMCA and the Lincoln County Health Department. Keith Turner was a Lincolnton resident who had a passion for helping youth and families in the community.

This is third year the annual concert has been held at the pavilion at the Y. It was previously known as the KREWE Fun Fest and is held to raise funds to send local children to summer camp at the YMCA.

“All the money stays right here in the Lincoln County YMCA,” Paula Turner said. “It’s helped so many kids attend summer camp. We were filled this year. I don’t think they turned anyone away.”

This is the 19th year that concerts have been held to memorialize Keith Turner and raise money for the YMCA.

“It all started with Keith, Rick Ramseur, Larry Dellinger and Harry Costner who were all high school classmates,” Paula Turner said. “Now, the only one left is Rick. In the beginning, they all got together and wanted to raise money for underprivileged children in Lincoln County. That’s how we got the Y and these concerts started.”

Known as the "Original Carolina Girl,” Gore was raised in a very musical family. Her father, Jackie Gore, is known as the "Father of Beach Music". She began singing at age five and found herself center stage in a number of beach bands along the way. She recorded her first LP in the early 80s and has received several Cammy Awards, including Female Vocalist of The Year. Gore has also received Cammy awards for Solo Album of the Year and Collaboration of the Year. She was awarded the very prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award by the Carolina Beach Music Awards in 2010.

There’ll be homemade ice cream available made by the ladies at Antioch Baptist Church, the Lincolnton High School Band Boosters will be selling hamburgers and hotdogs. Drinks will be provided for free.

This is a free event, but donations to the YMCA will be greatly appreciated. The pavilion is located across the street from the Lincolnton YMCA and the Lincoln County Health Department. A golf cart will be available to transport individuals who may be mobility challenged. There is limited seating, so lawn chairs are recommended. The Lincoln County Family YMCA is located at 1402 Gaston Street in Lincolnton.
