The Lincoln County Christmas parade season kicks off with the 61st annual Lincolnton Christmas Parade this Sunday, Dec. 1. This parade is slated to be bigger and better than ever with more than 85 entries. The theme is “Candy Land: Sweet Surprises.” The parade will begin at 4 p.m. at East Main and Flint Street, travelling through downtown Lincolnton, around Court Square and down North Aspen Street, ending at Lincolnton High School.
After the parade, there will be performances by the “Trumpet Trio Plus One” consisting of all four Lincoln County Schools high school band directors, the Lincolnton High School Singers, the First United Methodist Church Hand Bell Choir, the Lincolnton Community Gospel Choir and dancers from the “Nutcracker” ballet, followed by lighting of the giant Christmas tree in front of the courthouse.
Downtown street closures and detours will start at 1 p.m. and all streets will re-open by 7 p.m.
The 11th annual Denver parade will be on Dec. 7 from 12:30 until approximately 2:30 p.m. The theme this year is "The Spirit of Christmas." Jan Caruso, who has been in charge of the East Lincoln Christian Ministries for the past 15 years, is the grand marshal. The parade viewing route is from North Pilot Knob and N.C. Business 16 to Captain’s Cap.
Also on Dec. 7 will be the Crouse Merry Christmas Festival. The festival, which is being held in lieu of a parade, will run 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at 2322 Boy Scout Road in Lincolnton. There will be games, a hot dog sale, recognition of the Miss and Mister Crouse winners, tables decorated for Christmas, a marshmallow roast and of course Santa Claus will be on hand to hear all those Christmas wishes. The event is free and open to the public.
The next Saturday, Dec. 14 brings the return of the one-of-a-kind Cat Square Christmas Parade. The parade runs down Cat Square Road in Vale beginning at Zur Leonard Road at 1 p.m. and ending at Bill Sain Road. Nominations for mayor will be in Nov. 30, and Little and Miss Cat Square nominations will be on Nov. 30 and Dec. 7. Voting for Mayor will be Dec. 7. Nominations and voting to occur at the Cat Square Superette, 2140 Cat Square Road in Vale.
Santa returns to the Lincolnton Santa House and Carriage Rides begin on Dec. 5 through Dec. 21 every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. Santa will be available between 5-8 p.m. and carriage rides will run along Main street between 6:30-9:30 p.m. Carriage rides are $10/person, wagon rides are $5/person and children under 2 are free. Carriage rides and the Santa House will be closed in the event of inclement weather.
