Christmas Train-1.jpg

A Lincolnton man is sharing his love of Christmas in a very special way. Steve Herman loves to decorate for the holidays and decided that since some people don’t decorate, he’d take the decorations to the people. Herman, who’s now semi-retired, built a brightly lit Christmas train out of an old lawnmower that he drives around his neighborhood spreading Christmas cheer.

He eventually had to replace the lawnmower with a Gator UTV because he needed more power to pull the cars. When the train is stationary at his house, the lights are plugged in to an electric outlet, but when he’s driving the train, the generator powers the lights.

“I made a run last night with it taking kids in the neighborhood,” he said. “They’ll call me, or their parents will call me and say so and so wants to go and I say okay, I’ll come and get you.”

There are dual horns on the train out of an old Cadillac. There’s also a security system siren which Herman can crank up pretty loud. He also installed a sound system to play Christmas music.

Herman lives in the Cline Farm development in Lincolnton.
