LINCOLNTON – There’s a new store in downtown Lincolnton and ready to “gear your adventure.” Blue River Outfitters, a store specializing in equipment, provisions and clothing for outdoor excursions opened this past week. It’s owned and operated by Jeremy and Beth Sexton.
The store, both the name and the concept grew out of the couple’s love for outdoor adventure and is named after their favorite hike which is in Costa Rica called the Rio Celeste. The Rio Celeste is a river that’s a stunning electric blue color.
“We love adventures and making memories,” Beth Sexton said. “We find stores like this wherever we go, especially if we know it’s a local place. We’re in an ideal location in Lincolnton and we’ve got a lot of outdoor enthusiasts around here. Lincoln County is ideal for people who want to enjoy the lake on the east side and the mountains on the west.”
Beth Sexton grew up in the Lincolnton area and graduated from West Lincoln High School. The couple returned to the area 12 or 13 years ago. Jeremy Sexton works as a physician’s assistant in Lincolnton. Beth Sexton opened Bloom Market across the street from Blue River Outfitters three years ago.
“We saw the downtown area growing and we tried to figure out what we could do to make an impact on the area,” Jeremy Sexton said. “We felt like this would be a great addition. We looked back over the past two years with COVID and the pandemic and how much people took advantage of just going outside and being with their families. When kids were out of school and businesses shut down for a period of time, it didn’t keep them from getting outside and spending time with their families. We made some great family trips during that time and made some great memories.”
As is the case with Bloom, Blue River Outfitters is beautifully designed and furnished. Inventory includes camping and hiking gear, apparel, and outdoor provision items.
“We want people to feel comfortable when they shop here,” Beth Sexton said. “Sometimes you can go places like this when you’re looking to take an adventure or a trip, especially if you’re a beginner, and feel intimidated. That was one of our goals when we opened this store. We want any individual or family to be able to come and gather things for their adventure and feel good about it. We’ll grow and expand on what we have, but what we wanted was a store where people could come and get the basics they’d need to go and explore.”
Blue River Outfitters is located at 202 East Main Street in Lincolnton. The telephone number is 704-240-9013 and they have a Facebook page. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
