Ball Guy

Over the past few days, Erik Bendl, from Louisville, Kentucky, made his way through Lincoln County, but not in the usual way. He’s been traveling, on foot, averaging about 10 miles a day, rolling a six-foot-high inflated globe. Making his way, on this trip, from Myrtle Beach to Glen Alpine, Bendl does this to raise awareness for diabetes which he says is a global problem. He stopped keeping track of the miles he’s travelled after he hit 6,000 in 2013.

“My mother passed away from diabetes at the age of 54,” he said. “My uncle also has diabetes, so I decided I’d walk to his birthday party in Pittsburgh. It took off from there.”
