North Lincoln sweeps early XC meet

LINCOLNTON — North Lincoln finished on top for both the boys’ and girls’ races in Tuesday’s meet at Highland Drive Park.

“We came into it expecting to do well,” said Knights head coach Matt Reep, “I am very pleased and hoping this is a good start (to the season).”

Although it’s early in the year several players are beginning to make a name for themselves as playmakers for their respected teams.

Cedar Grove Lutheran 2010 Tournament Champions

Reigning 2008 and 2009 regular season champs took the 2010 tournament crown after sweeping through the playoffs with a 4-0 record. Over the last three seasons Cedar Grove has held a record of 46-8. Stellar defensive play coupled along with consistent hitting led to Cedar Grove’s grip on the Boger City Church League. The team had a batting average of .714 throughout the four games. Regular season batting averages were: Roger Homesley .765, Robert Pearson .696, Joel Dalton .643, Jeff Mason .600, Tommy Hughes .594, Trent Cable .583, Josh Smith .564, Jeremy Smith .525, Linny Anthony .510, Justin Pearson .483, Jeremy Pearson .480, Kyle Cornwell .477, Travis Sutton .443, and Steve Carpenter .425. Just Say ‘Uncle’ — Sanders family battles for Late Model win

DENVER — Seven divisions took to the 3/8 mile clay oval at East Lincoln Speedway this past Saturday night. For the second time this season, Late Models returned for a 25-lap feature event. Crimestoppers of Lincolnton on Lincoln County Night at the races presented by Steele Rubber Products proved to be one of the most exciting nights of racing this season.

Wolves outlast Red Raiders 43-42

BELMONT – It was like a heavyweight title fight. Two of the best, trading punches…back and forth until only one would be left standing.

And when Lincolnton senior Brandon Wilson found Jonathan Gidney in the middle of the end zone in overtime for a two-point conversion, it was the Wolves that escaped with the 43-42 decision over the defending 3AA state champions at South Point.

Red Devils rally for 28-21 win

NEWTON — The Newton-Conover Red Devils put together a second half comeback scoring three times and held off a late fourth quarter score for a 28-21 home win over East Lincoln Friday night.

West powers to 2-0 behind run game, defense

HAYS — West Lincoln moved to 2-0 as they earned their first road victory of the year, a 47-8 win Friday night.

North Wilkes (0-2) attempted an onside kick to open the game and when Casey Hicks recovered the kick it gave the Rebels great field position.

Bears edge Knights 14-7

CLAREMONT — The Bunker Hill Bears ran their way to a win in the second half. Bears quarterback Joe Litton scored the game-winning touchdown on a 1-yard run, and Bunker Hill held on for a 14-7 victory at home over the North Lincoln Knights.
