Head coach Bob Cowie believes things are starting to come together for his Lincolnton Wolves. The Wolves won 54-45 at South Point Tuesday night.
“We showed signs of starting of becoming the team I thought we were capable of being,” he said.
The Wolves were led by Darren Wilson who poured in a season-high 26 points.
“Darren got off to a quick start. He hit his first couple of shots and just went from there. He was kind of struggling with his toe injury and has been sick, so he kind of got it going
tonight,” Cowie said.
Lincolnton’s efforts were also bolstered by Eric Wilson who had a steady 21 points. Cowie feels it’s Eric’s versatility that makes him so successful.
“He was just his basic self. He found ways to score tonight. On Friday, he had five three pointers and tonight he didn’t have any, but he still found ways,” he said.
The Wolves, now 3-1, will host East Lincoln on Friday night. Cowie says he needs his team to have good preparation.
“We need to make sure we have two good days of practice and we will surely be ready Friday night. It won’t be easy, but we will be ready to play there is not a doubt in my mind,” he
said.

West Lincoln Men’s
After a 4-0 start, West Lincoln was dealt their second consecutive loss Tuesday night, falling to the East Gaston Warriors 63-57.
The Rebels fell behind 15-8 in the first period. Head coach Chad Wright feels that was the main reason they lost.
“We dug ourselves a hole in the first quarter. During the first, we didn’t have a lot of intensity on the defensive end,” he said.
B.J. Holland led West Lincoln with 14 points. Wright was pleased with his performance.
“B.J.’s shot is really starting to come around and it’s right on time. Especially with the conference season about to start,” he said.
The coach was happy with his team’s last three quarters, but believes they need that type of intensity for a whole game.
“The last three quarters we really got after it. The biggest thing for us is stringing four quarters together,” he said.
West Lincoln fell to Cherryville last Friday but the pair of losses is no reason to push the panic button, Wright said.
“We’re real, real close. We’re at that hump and we just need to get over it. We’ve lost two games to two really good basketball teams. We need to use these two losses to show us what we
need to do,” he said.
The Rebels’ record is now 4-2 on the season. East Gaston remains undefeated.
