There were a few bright spots, but not many as the Lady Wolves began their season with a 58-37 loss to South Point Tuesday night.
Through the first quarter, the Lady Red Raiders held an 11-9 advantage. That was the closest they could get the rest of the game.
Trailing 31-19 at halftime the Lady Wolves could only muster four points in the third quarter, putting the visitors ahead 44-23 through three quarters.
The Lady Wolves played their best in the fourth quarter, putting 14 points on the scoreboard, but it was to no avail.
Head coach David Johnson was pleased with the ladies’ effort, but said there were improvements to be made.
“We need to fine tune some things. We were very aggressive, which was good. However we still have several areas we need to work on,” he said.
Shelly Robinson from South Point led all scorers with 14 points. Shantae Shank paced the Lady Wolves with 16 on the night. Lindsay Sain, also a Lady Wolf, had a solid night scoring 11
points of her own.
“They played hard and gave it their all. But they can’t do it by themselves. We need to be more well-rounded,” Johnson said of Shank and Sain.
Johnson was impressed by the Lady Red Raiders’ play.
“That was a very good team. We just need to take it as a learning experience and correct our flaws,” he said.
The Lady Wolves are 0-1 on the season. They will visit North Gaston on Thursday to take on the Lady Wildcats.
