East Burke wins WL’s Coaches vs Cancer clash
|

December 2, 2002 - VALE — The East Burke junior varsity defeated West Lincoln in the
semifinals Friday and Cherryville Saturday in the finals to win the West Lincoln Coaches vs. Cancer junior varsity basketball tournament.
In the finals match, East Burke, by far the class of the four-team field, cruised past the
Ironmen 87-45.

WEST CALDWELL — The Lincolnton High Wrestling team won two games and suffered one loss Nov. 26 during the meet at West Caldwell High School. Lincolnton won
41-30, and 48 to 36 against W.C., and lost 21-59 against R.S. Central.

East gets the best of West this time

December 4, 2002 - DENVER — It was East Lincoln’s boys and girls chances to show what they can do
Tuesday night against West Lincoln.
Both Mustang teams lost to their rival Rebels squads last Tuesday.
This time they got even. East boys held off a late West rally to win 53-44. The Lady Mustangs also won by nine, 46-37.

VALE — The West Lincoln High wrestling team defeated East 69-12 in their match on Tuesday at West
Lincoln to stay undefeated.

the nine-team St. Stephens Indian Classic Saturday.
West finished fourth while Lincolnton, which competed without its top players, came in ninth.

coach Butch Ross his 150th career win.
West wins by pin came from Matt Avery Zac Elmore Brent Gates, Steele Barber, Eric
Steele and Aaron Terry.

Hester was in Charlotte.
Hester and six other student-athletes from West Lincoln High School, accompanied by athletics director Wayne Navey and football coach Mike Harrill, attended a
luncheon Monday at the Charlotte Touchdown Club.

December 13, 2002 - Lincoln County now has a new Optimist Club to help make a difference in the lives of
children as well as our community.
The North Lincoln Optimist Club was founded on November 5, 2002.
Optimist International President, William Teague, flew in to charter this club.

He didn’t know about it but he daughters dug up the information and told after his squad defeated the No. 1 team in 3-A, East Gaston Tuesday at home.
