Lady Mustangs beat West

Published November 26, 2003

By JOHN MARK BROOKS, Staff Writer

————————————

The Lady Mustangs have plenty to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

A 43-31 win over the West Lincoln Lady Rebels Tuesday night gave them a perfect 2-0 record headed into the holiday.

East Lincoln was lead in scoring by Sara Fleming with 17 points on the night. Brooke Michael also scored in double figures with 11. Kim Scercy chipped in with five points of her own.

Lilly Tallent paced the Lady Rebels with eight on the night. Watts and Peterson both contributed with seven.

The game started out highly competitive with East clinging to a 7-6 lead.

West Lincoln held a 17-15 advantage at the half. However, a 12-point third quarter gave the Lady Mustangs a 27-22 cushion heading into the final stanza.

East peaked in the fourth quarter scoring 16 points to put the game away.

Head coach Henry Barkley was very pleased with one player in particular.

“Susan Rutledge came off the bench with a lot of mental toughness. She hustled the whole night and had the desire to come up with every loose ball,” he said.

The loss lowers the Lady Rebels’ record to 0-3 for the season.

They will have a chance for revenge as they host East Lincoln on Dec. 2.

West Lincoln 6 11 5 9 -31

East Lincoln 7 8 12 16 -43

West Lincoln: Tallent 8, Watts 7, Peterson 7, Wellman 5, Thornburg 2, Elmore 2.

East Lincoln: Sara Fleming 17, Leslie Marlow 4, Kim Scercy 5, Brooke Michael 11, Koree Roseboro 4, Toree Roseboro 2.
