North Lincoln held their inaugural sports banquet Thursday night and they did things a little differently. They started out with everybody being gathered together in one room, but by
the end of the night they were all in different places.
“The idea was to create a more intimate family-like atmosphere. This way at one point in the night we were all together, but then the coaches had a chance say whatever they wanted to
their kids as well,” athletic director Scott Sekal said.
Sports represented at the banquet were cheerleading, football, volleyball, cross country and soccer.
For the tennis program, Callie Bercham was awarded the Most Improved Player, Caroline Farris earned All-Conference honors and Sarah Long garnered the MVP award to go beside her
All-Conference selection.
In varsity volleyball, Lindsay Smith and Jessica Ward were selected as All-Conference. Ward also earned the MVP award. Nicole Baxter took home the Most Improved award and Jenny Boyle
received the Team Before Self award.
On the JV level, Ashley Lenintine received the Most Improved Award and Katherine Thorne was awarded for Team Before Self. Jenna Borbeau was named MVP.
In cross country, Debbie Jackson was named the MVP and All-Conference for the women. On the men’s side Collin Murdock was the Most Improved Player. Lee Broome garnered the MVP and was
also All-Conference.
For the cheerleading program, Kierstyn Cavazos and Alysha McCrary were named Most Spirited. Annessa Jenkins and Alyson Insull were named Spark Plugs for the varsity.
For the JV team, Chelsea Singletary was named the Most Improved Player and Ashley Goldstein received Most Spirited.
In soccer, Brian Gentry was named MVP and All-Conference. Matt Harkey was the Most Improved.
For the varsity football Todd Eaton was named Best Offensive Player, Wayne White was name Most Improved and Brian Funk was the Best Defensive Player. Trent Hopkins was the MVP.
In JV football, Jarrett Robbins was the Most Improved Player and Josh McClain garnered the MVP.
Sekal was very happy with the way the night went.
“It think it was wonderful. We had great attendance by the parents and kids. I would also like to thank Barbecue King for the great food,” he said.
Although, North Lincoln lacks a senior class, Sekal was pleased with every team’s effort.
“Every team had success. No, it’s not where we want to be, but we did have some (success) so that’s all you can ask for in your first year,” he said.
