JV Wolves cruises

TERRANCE THOMAS, LTN Staff Writer

Nov. 9 - The Lincolnton junior varsity football team ended it season with a bang Thursday night.

East Rutherford entered the game at 9-0 but the JV Wolves pounded the JV Cavaliers 36-12 with a solid offensive performance it their season finale.

The JV Wolves struck by air. Quarterback Pedro Fonseca connected with receiver Eric Wilson three times for touchdowns (20, 15 and 35 yards out).

And then hit the Cavs with a land assault. Running back Darren Wilson scored from the East Rutherford 30 and 10-yard lines while Fonseca added another with a keeper from the 1.

The win capped a solid 7-2-1 season for the JV Wolves.

“We just played hard,” said defensive end Wesley Thomp-son. “We wanted to win. We had a lot of talent. We beat some good teams. It was a good season.”

“We played like a team,” said linebacker Matt Murray. “Everybody stuck together. We played hard and didn’t give up.”

Head coach Fred Dalrymple said the JV Wolves started off strong then had a two-game lapse but they bounced back and with a big win.

“We got our confidence back,” Dalrymple said. “We wanted to finish on a winning note. (Against East Rutherford) Offensively, we did everything well. The line blocked, the backs ran hard, the passing game was exceptional. On defense, we tackled well and played our positions well. I’m very proud of the team.”

Players, Adam Parker, Eric Wilson, Darren  Wilson, Fonseca, Alex Mullen, Brian Ebert, Terrell Phelps, and Murray all will move up to the varsity.

Dalrymple also wanted to credit players, John Nielson, Jordy Jefferies, Tim Owens, Andy Gilreath, David Carter and Brant Eagle and others who contributed to the team play all season.
