SHELBY涌ne week after getting their first ever Midwest 2A victory, the West Lincoln Rebels faced the task of stopping the Shelby Golden Lions.

Shelby took control of the game early scoring thirty-five first half points en route to a 37-6 win.

Junior fullback Terrell Gullatte scored three first quarter touchdowns on runs of 17, nine and 20 yards to pace the Golden Lions rushing attack.

Senior quarterback Keith Brooks added another first quarter score for Shelby to give to the Golden Lions a commanding 28-0 lead after the first period.

The only score of the second quarter came with 2:59 to play in the half when Gullatte scored his fourth touchdown of the game. This time a two-yard run, giving Shelby a 35-0 lead at the break.

The Rebels showed signs of life on their first drive of the third quarter. West mounted an 85-yard scoring drive on 12 plays, capped by a 39-yard touchdown pass from Brent Gates to Dustin Hester to make the score 35-6.

A roughing the kicker penalty against the Golden Lions on fourth down and three was key in setting up the Rebel touchdown.

The remainder of the game was scoreless except for a safety in the fourth quarter when Shelby defenders tackled the Rebel quarterback in the end zone.

The Golden Lions held a huge advantage in total offense. Shelby outgained the Rebels 406 to 146, with 359 of the yards coming on the ground. Gullatte led the Golden Lion rushing attack, gaining 119 yards on 11 carries.

Will Tallent's 40 yards on 10 carries led the Rebel ground game, while senior quarterback Brent Gates completed 5 of 11 passes for 72 yards and a touchdown.

Gates handled most of the quarterbacking duties, as Taylor Woodie was on the sidelines with a dislocated little finger on his left hand.  Woodie's status for this Friday night is still uncertain.

The Rebels travel to Bandys on Friday, while the Golden Lions will be at Lincolnton.
