The Lincolnton Middle Wildcats caught a glimpse of the future on Wednesday as they maintained their perfect record advancing to 7-0 with a 22-16 win over Crest. Jonatham Ingram rushed nine times, racking up a career-high 107 yards.

His biggest play came courtesy of  a 70 yard touchdown run in the 2nd quarter to make it 20-0. He also ran in the 2-point conversion to make it 22-0.

Assistant coach Mike Devine and head coach Steven Smith were proud of Ingram. They knew the magnitude of going undefeated.

笛onathan had a breakout game for us. Our young men played with a lot of heart against an unbelievable team. We could have played better, but not much harder. I am so proud of this team. To go 7-0 in this league is a huge accomplishment for LMS football, we feel fortunate," Devine said.

C.J. Wilson and Mardriekus Mayfield, who had led the Wildcats all season, both were instrumental in the win. Wilson scored one touchdown on defense via a 50-yard interception return. He added another touchdown on a 55-yard pass play on a bomb from Mayfield. Mayfield was efficient passing compiling  100 yards on five completions. Demery Brewer chipped in with two receptions for 20 yards, one of them a 2-point conversion.

Octavius Reid led a good defensive effort that held the score at 22-8 until the final minute of the game when Crest scored to close the gap to 22-16.  Ingram, Brewer, Montreal Wilson, Chris Robinson, Jeremy Ferguson and Brandon Locklin were also defensive standouts.

Smith said there was no doubt of how good Crest was and what it took to earn the victory.

"They were huge up front and quick. This was the best team we've played. Our kids made the big plays when they had to. This is a huge win for us," he said.
