They were off and running Tuesday afternoon at West Lincoln for the Lincoln County cross country meet.

The course was a 5K or 3.1 miles and featured a terrain with hills. The running conditions were favorable — sunny, but not too hot.

On the men’s side of the draw where they take the top five finishers, Lincolnton High School won with 22 points. East Lincoln came in second with 44 points. West Lincoln and North Lincoln finished with 74 and 79.

Jared Webb paced Lincolnton and was the overall winner for the men as he ran a 18:23. Luis Soto, also from Linconton, came in second finishing one second behind Webb. The third place runner Chris Haney, from East Lincoln, finished with a time of 18:53.

The top runner for West Lincoln was Ben Hickman who finished with a time of 20:09. The top North Lincoln runner was Lee Broome who posted a time of 19:56.

For the women the West Lincoln Lady Rebels was the only team that had everyone on their team finish. All other county teams received an incomplete time for the event.

Track and cross country star Brittany Beeker had an impressive victory, posting a time of 22:29. Her teammate Kelly Pittman finished with a time of 24:17. Third place went to Debbie Jackson, from North Lincoln, with a time of 25:04.

The top runner from East Lincoln was Kim Scercy with a time of 28:17. Lincolnton was paced by Emily Mackie who posted a time of 29:04.

Up next for West Lincoln and Lincolnton will be their participation in the Midwest 2A Conference Championship next Tuesday, which will also be held at West Lincoln.
