Lincolnton heard that all night Friday during South Point’s huge 55-21 win over the Wolves.

The South Point fullback ran for four touchdowns and 130 yards before he came out early in the fourth quarter.

Mustangs crush a Rebel army without key soldiers

September 2, 2002 - DENVER — East Lincoln coach Jim Ruark could have used the revenge factor to motivate his team for Friday's meeting with cross-county rival West Lincoln.

After all, the Rebels pounded the Mustangs 31-6 last year at West Lincoln.

Mustangs cross country squad is optimistic

September 2, 2002 - DENVER — If the East Lincoln Mustangs can make quantity equate to quality, they may be a force to reckon with in cross country this year.

A turnout of 12 girls and 11 boys has both teams hoping for big things for the 2002 season.

McMurry hit birdies to win his 11th LCC Club title

September 4, 2002 - With five players within two points of each other going into the final round Monday, Andy McMurry shot a 71 including making a series of birdies down the stretch to win the three-day Lincoln Country Club Championship by four shots.

Lady Mustangs stand out in tennis

Hope to be a force in the Big South Conference

September 4, 2002 - DENVER — The East Lincoln girls tennis team hopes to be a force in the Big South Conference this fall.

So far the Lady Mustangs are taking care of business. They defeated West Lincoln 7-2 and Newton-Conover 7-2 before losing to Lincolnton.

Lincolnton JV football team defeated North Gaston 26-14 Thursday at home.

Demory Williams was exceptional with two punt returns for touchdowns and he also scored on a 55-yard hitch pass from quarterback Edwin Barber.

September 6, 2002 - VALE — The East Lincoln Mustangs broke open a very close match, by overwhelming West the last two games, to take a five game match Wednesday.

East won 13-15, 15-13, 15-17, 15-3, 15-4.

September 6, 2002 - DENVER — Who’s better? East Lincoln Middle football team or Pumpkin Center Middle’s squad.

The two rival teams battled to a 20-20 double overtime tie Wednesday afternoon at east Lincoln High’s Dave Clark Stadium.

Bessemer City shuts out Rebels

September 9, 2002 - VALE — One small pin can take the air out of a big balloon.

Bessemer City led 12-0 at the half Friday night.

September 9, 2002 - DENVER — East Lincoln’s confidence has to be sky high about now.

The Mustangs hammered Highland Tech 59-0 to register it second straight shutout.

The Mustangs racked up yards and points like a pinball machine.

No court can change LHS' win over N. Gaston

September 9, 2002 - DALLAS — Friday's North-Gaston Lincolnton football game offered further proof of the old sports adage: The only numbers that really count are the ones on the scoreboard.

The host Wildcats piled up 474 yards of offense to only 281 for the Wolves, but all North Gaston had to show for those gaudy numbers was another loss.

Pumpkin Center team plays first game ever

September 9, 2002 - The Pumpkin Center Panthers midget team won the first game it played in its existence on Saturday by a score of 14-6 over the Mooresville Cougars. Chad Arndt and Jordan Scott scored TDs and Trey Painter added a two-point conversion. Painter also made a game-saving tackle in the second half. Jeff Holmes, Coty McCabe and Michael Nichols played well on defense. Nichols had a fumble recovery late that led to the winning score.

LHS girls tennis team gets the best of West

September 11, 2002 - Andrea Stroup won her match over Carrie Freeman 6-2, 7-5 to propel the Lady Wolves to a 9-0 win over West Lincoln Tuesday at Lincolnton.

LHS players all won. No. 2 Fallon Heavner 6-2, 6-0 over Brittany Seagle, No. 3 Caitlin Andrews defeated Brittany Godfrey 6-1, 6-2.

West Lincoln Volleyball

West Lincoln varsity and J.V. volleyball teams both beat Bandys Tuesday.

The varsity team swept the Lady Trojans 17-15, 15-5 and 15-13. In Game 2, Lauren Mosteller served 13 of the 15 points. At one point she had eight consecutive points. She had four aces and two that wasn’t returned in that spurt.

September 16, 2002 - VALE — West Lincoln must have had an excellent week of practice.

 How else to explain the Rebels’ complete turnaround Friday night in a 10-7 home win over bitter rival Cherryville.
