August 5, 2002 - Matt Sigmon (top) of Bessemer City putts at one of the scenic holes at Lincoln Country Club in the New Vision third
annual golf tournament fundraiser Friday afternoon. Denver's Chris Wilson (right) steps into one from the white tees. New Vision Ministries held the tournament to raise money to support the
organization's New Vision University program based in Lincolnton, which helps the group have ministry in the prison.
The program also educates its student inmates on regular courses and the gospel. The goal of the New Vision Univer-sity is to reduce the 80 percent return rate back to prison, according to Dr. Michael Steen, the university's chancellor. Thanks to local businesses, the tournament raised over $3,800 for the university. This year Steen said it's possible that the tournament can bring in $3,000 in funds for the program. Businesses like Town Square Ford and Abernethy Chevrolet donated gifts for prizes in the tourney. There were hole-in-one prizes such as trucks, cars and even a modular home.
