On Senior Night at Jonathan Brookins Field, Bandys walked by Lincolnton 4-3 in baseball Friday.

Senior right-hander Jason Hammond pitched all 10 innings striking out seven for the game.

Hammonds pitched a pretty strong game but at times struggled with his control.

The game was deadlocked until the 10th inning. Back-to-back Bandys’ batters walked to start off the inning. Two batters later, Kyle Helderman singled with one out to put Bandys up 4-3.

The Wolves tried to mount a comeback in the bottom of the 10th. Evan Wise started off the inning lining a shot to left center but was thrown out at second trying to stretch it to a double.

Randall Chambers knew he needed to step up and he did keeping the Wolves alive with a single. However, Bandys was able to fan the next two Lincolnton batters to end the marathon contest.

The Wolves out hit Bandys 12 to seven but, according to coach Bobby Martin, missed chances hurt his club.

“We just couldn’t get the big hit tonight. The kids played hard, but we had too many missed opportunities.”

Lincolnton left the bases loaded three times, and stranded a total of 14 runners.

For Lincolnton, shortstop Justin Keever led the way with three hits recording two doubles and a triple.

Senior Chambers and Evan Wise also had two hits for the game. Defensively, Bradley Dalrymple made several good plays in center field. He also had two hits in the game.

Bandys’ Trey Miller and Helderman both had two hits apiece.

The two schools will rematch tonight at 7 at Bandys in the first round of the 2A Midwest Conference Tournament.

The Wolves finished seventh in the conference with a record of 5-9.

The JV game also went into extra innings as Lincolnton won 5-4 in eight innings. Dustin Weaver drove in Kyle Baker for the winning run.
