West and LHS boys tennis both pull out victories
East Lincoln’s golf team and ELAX lacrosse club gets huge wins as well
VALE — The West Lincoln Rebels Tennis team faced East Gaston Tuesday afternoon, hoping to boost its record to 3-1.
The Rebels barely managed to squeak out a victory, winning five matches to four.
For West, No. 1 Josh Sain, No. 3 Dustin Helms, No. 5 Cole Wilson, and No. 6 Kyle Metcalf all won.
Sain easily beat East Gaston’s Chris Piercey 6-3, 6-2. Wilson and Metcalf also won easily, both winning their matches 6-4, 6-0.
Helms pulled out a close one 6-4, 6-4.
West Lincoln’s No. 3 doubles team hung on to win. Freshman Matt Limone, and senior Kyle Metcalf took the match 9-7 to win the overall match for the team.

LHS boys tennis loses on Monday but wins on Tuesday
MOORESVILLE — The Lincolnton boys tennis team dropped a 8-1 match to Mooresville Monday.
Joseph Allender got the team’s only win.
Coach Chris Hoffman said his team wasn’t up for the match. “(It was a ) disappointing loss,” he said. “It was obvious that we were not ready to play tennis
today. Our squad could only put together a few good sets against the Blue Devils. Joseph Allender prevented a shut-out with a tough split-set win.”
On Tuesday at home, Lincolnton boys tennis team cruised to a 8-1 win over Lake Norman Tuesday.
LHS’ got singles wins from all six players — John James, Devin High, Jimmy Thackston, Joseph Allender, Andrew Allender and Lee Campbell.
The two doubles wins were from James-High and Thackston-J. Allender.
LHS Coach Chris Hoffman said, “Lake Norman has a young team and we took advantage of their inexperience coasting to an 8-1 victory.”
ELAX falls in season opener
but wins second game
HUNTERSVILLE — The East Lincoln lacrosse team (ELAX) dropped its seson opener to North Meck 9-1 Monday.
Jay Thompson scored the goal for ELAX with an assist by Clay Parker. Goalie Alex Martin came through defensively with 17 saves.
Other defensive standouts include Brian Barker, Trevor Barrick and Duncan Carlton.
CHARLOTTE — ELAX defeated Providence High School Tuesday 14-8.
Jay Thompson led the offense by scoring seven goals out of 11 attempts. Brian Barker added three goals along with Clay Parker who had three goals and three
assists. Both Brian and Clay were 3-for-7.
In the second game eighth grader Luke Barker ever played in lacrosse, he scored a goal.
He also picked up seven ground balls. Coach Gene Thompson called him the player of the game.
Tim Moonly contributed greatly with eight ground balls and an assist.
Defensively, goalie Alex Martin He had 21 saves during the game and only allowed eight goals.
Of the 14 ELAX players in uniform, only five of them played last year. Each one contributed.
Defensive player, Duncan Carlton and Trevor Barrick combined for 14 ground ball recoveries.
“It was a good game,” Thompson said. “The opponents were fairly inexperienced as were we. On Monday, we played last year’s defending champ and held them to
nine goals.”
ELAX plays Saturday at South Meck.
East golf wins 5-team match
DENVER — The East Lincoln golf team won a five-team match at Cowan’s Foard Country Club Monday.
East shot 152 to defeat Shelby (159), Lake Norman (159), Lincolnton (179) and South Iredell (195).
For East, Robbie Howard shot 36 in nine holes while teammates Daniel Lingerfelt (37), Zach Kiser (39), Reid Ketner (40), Kenny Bethea (42) and Will Campbell
(42) all did well.
Lincolnton got 42’s from Kyle Gazdek and martin Wadsworth.
