CHERRYVILLE — The West Lincoln baseball team went into Friday afternoon’s game at Cherryville looking for their first win.

But the Ironmen denied the Rebels 6-2.

After a sloppy first inning by the Ironmen, who committed three errors, the Rebels took a 2-0 lead.

However, in the third, Cherryville got three hits and scored two runs, to tie the game. Then in the Ironmen added two in the fourth and two more in the sixth which came off of Ben Lastra’s home run.

Cherryville pitchers Chris McSwain and Steven Justice combined on the two-hitter. After trouble early in the game, they held West to five hitless innings.

West plays again today at Hunter Huss at 7 p.m.

East softball wins big

MOORESVILLE — The East Lincoln softball team’s bats were alive Friday afternoon when they met the ladies of Lake Norman High School.

East won 13-2 in five innings.

The Lady Mustangs jumped out to a quick four-run lead at the top of the first and were hard to stop after that.

Lake Norman answered back with 2 runs in the bottom of the second inning but they were silenced in further innings thanks to a strong showing of both pitching and defense by the Mustangs.

East put a lock on the game the top of the fourth inning with an additional six runs.

East’s winning pitcher was Autumn Painter. She allowed only five hits and had five strike outs and two walks.

The team’s leading hitters were Amanda Goodson (2-for-3, Nicole Shoemaker (3-for-4), Stephanie Edwards (3-for-4),  and Jessica Towery (3-for-4).

Following suit was East’s JV team who defeated Lake Norman 7-1.

Nicole Baxter was the winning pitcher. She struck out three and helped herself with a three-run triple. The game’s highlight came on East’s Laura Estridge’s two-run homer

East plays again at home today and Wednesday.
