LHS baseball falls but tennis team gets pay back

March 5, 2003 - The visiting Maiden Blue Devils used a five-run second inning Tuesday to defeat the Lincolnton Wolves 9-5.
After the Wolves put up three runs in the bottom half of the first to take a 3-1 lead, the Blue Devils scored five times in the second and two more in the
third to take a commanding 8-3 advantage.
Winning pitcher Patrick Williams went the distance on the mound for Maiden, while Colby Burgin took the loss for the Wolves.
At the plate, Lincolnton was led by Justin Keever who went 3-for-4. Burgin and Brandon Scott were both 2-for-3.
Sean Prince led the Blue Devil hitting attack going 3-for-5, while Brett Beal and Logan Spake had two hits each.
The Wolves will be at home again today at 4:30 to take on South Point.

West pounds Bessemer City
BESSEMER CITY — West Lincoln Lady Rebels opened with a win over Bessemer City 20-4 in five innings Tuesday.
The Lady Rebels pounded out 17 hits and collected 10 walks while three West pitchers gave up five hits and seven walks.
LHS boys tennis wins
Lincolnton boys tennis team got revenge against South Point Tuesday.
After losing 8-1 last week, LHS defeated the Red Raiders 7-2.
LHS got singles wins from No. 1 John James, No. 3 Jimmy Thackston, No. 4 Joe Allender, and No. 5 Andrew Allender.
In doubles, teams of James Devin High, Andrew Allender and Michael Phillips won for the Wolves.
LHS Coach Chris Hoffman was pleased with the win.
“Today was pay back,” he said. “Our singles line-up earned the victory early with 5 wins.”
John James, had a tough come from behind match at No. 15, Jimmy Thackston, Joseph Allender, Andrew Allender, won handily, and Lee Campbell held onto an early
lead to deliver the 5th point.
“South Point did not quit and challenged us at No. 1 and 2 doubles,” he said. “John and Devin fought back to win No. 10.”
East golf wins match
LINCOLNTON — The East Lincoln golf team won a four team match at Lincoln Country Club Tuesday.
East had 163, Shelby 166, Lincolnton 181 and South Iredell 208.
Kenny Bethea was the match’s medalist. He shot 38 in nine holes. Other East scorers were Robbie Howard 40, Daniel Lingerfelt 40, and Reid Ketner 45. Michael
Wiseman led LHS with 42.
East girls beat Maiden
LAWNDALE — The East Lincoln girls soccer team won 4-1 at Burns Monday. They outshot Burns 18-6.
Erin Smith had two goals, while Krystal Hendricks and Julia Barker each added a goal in the victory. Kim Scercy went the distance in net with five saves.
