March 29, 2002 - VALE — While his classmates will be at the beach or the mountains this
weekend relaxing, West Lincoln Middle School student Jamey Goodman will be taking on perhaps the challenge of his life.
Goodman, who wrestled as a heavyweight for the school’s team, will compete in the Future Champions National Challenge Cup.

March 29, 2002 - VALE —The West Lincoln baseball squad didn’t look like a No. 5 team in the
state against Bunker Hill Wednesday.
But the Rebels did what top teams do: Win.
West Lincoln survived an off night but beat the Bears 5-3 to improve to 9-0 on the season.

East Lincoln baseball beats Hunter Huss
David Rue tossed a five-hitter and had a two-run single in the seventh to lead East Lincoln to a 6-4 win at Hunter Huss Wednesday.
In a game that was a pitchers’ duel for six innings, East scored five runs in the seventh and held off Huss.

County track and field Monday.
The Wolves won the boys county meet with 98 points, East had 41 and West, 34.

March 27, 2002 - Lincolnton High school will host the second annual Peoples Bank Easter Tournament,
Monday (April 1) and Tuesday (April 2).
West Lincoln will take on Maiden in the first game at 5 p.m. and Lincolnton plays Bandys at 7 p.m. on Monday.

March 25, 2002 - VALE — Lincolnton was able to beat both county rival West Lincoln and the
cold afternoon Friday.
Third baseman Andrea Stroup banged out four hits and senior pitcher Lynsey Cooper tossed a two-hitter as the Lady Wolves blanked the Lady Rebels 10-0.
It started as a pitcher’s duel between Coopers and Lady Rebels starter Kelsey Barrett.

March 25, 2002 - DENVER — History was made on Lincoln County soil Saturday.
What is believed to be Lincoln’s first ever lacrosse match was played on East Middle School fields.
A team primarily made up of East Lincoln students called ELAX (East Lacrosse) played Charlotte area Butler High School.

March 25, 2002 - North Gaston scored four runs in the seventh inning to beat East Lincoln 8-5 Friday.
Danny O’Brien, JoJo Dellinger both went 2-for-4 while Josh Cardoso smacked a two-run homer.
East will host Cherryville today at 5 p.m. and travel to Hunter Huss Tuesday at 7 p.m.
West Lincoln defeated Shelby Friday. West is now 8-0.

The Lincolnton boys tennis team lost a tough 5-4 home match to Fred T. Foard Thursday.
LHS won four singles matches but lost three doubles. In the doubles, Foard won two of the them, 9-7 and 8-6.

March 20, 2002 - Lincolnton’s New Life Baptist Academy girls basketball team recently
finished third in the National Association of Christian Athletes National Division III tournament.
The team competed in the NACA event March 13 through 15 in Dayton, Tenn.
NLBA won their first game of the tournament before falling to the eventual champion in the second round. They did win their final round to place third.

March 20, 2002 - The Lincolnton softball team won their conference opener by beating Newton-Conover 5-2 Tuesday.
Lynsey Cooper hurled a four-hitter, struck out six while walking four to get the win.
Lauren Bartholomew went 2-for-3 while driving in three runs.
Reylinda Trevino, Keisha Duncan, Lindsey Cooper, Lindsey Sain all had hits.
The Lady Wolves play at West Lincoln Friday at 4 p.m.

March 20, 2002 - CATAWBA — The Lincolnton baseball team ran into a Bandys buzz saw Tuesday.
The Trojans’ pitching ace Chris Harvey struck out eight while tossing a four-hit shutout. Harvey joined in on the Bandys bat party too. He had three hits to
lead Bandys to a 11-0 win.

Sabrina Abraham won both the 100-meter hurdles and the 300M hurdles. Crissy Tinsley captured both the triple
and long jumps. Tiffany Finandis and Toree Roseboro won the 100M dash and the 200M run respectively, then combined to lead the 400M relay to victory. The 1,600M relay team also won.

lead the Lady Ironmen to a 6-3 win over Lincolnton softball team at Betty G. Ross Park Friday.
With the score tied at 3, Cherryville’s Tara Rhyne on second with two outs, Hastings smacked a triple to right drive in Rhyne.

March 6, 2002 - The Timken Bass Club of Lincolnton fished the first tournament of the year Saturday Feb. 16 on Mountain Island Lake.
The winner and second place were taken by anglers fishing alone.
The top five were 1) Ed Bowman, 2) Roger Wood, 3) Travis Eaves and John Artis, 4) Ken Stamey and Scottie Stewart 5) Shane and Jerry Lineberger.
The Big Fish was caught by Eaves and Artis.
