Lady Wolves softball shuts down Lady Rebels

March 25, 2002 - VALE — Lincolnton was able to beat both county rival West Lincoln and the cold afternoon Friday.
Third baseman Andrea Stroup banged out four hits and senior pitcher Lynsey Cooper tossed a two-hitter as the Lady Wolves blanked the Lady Rebels 10-0.
It started as a pitcher’s duel between Coopers and Lady Rebels starter Kelsey Barrett.
No team could push a run across the plate for the first four innings. Pitching and a cold wind made hitting tough.
Lincolnton however broke open the scoreless contest scoring seven runs in the fifth.
It all started when freshman Elizabeth Stepp led off with a single. Stroup followed with a bunt hit. A throwing error allowed the first run to score then
Reylinda Trevino laced an RBI basehit.
One out later, Lauren Bartholomew reached on an infield hit. After an error and a walk. Santana Edwards singled in a run. By then the Lady Wolves had batted
around. Stroup slapped a single to drive in yet another run.
When the smoke had cleared, the Lady Wolves tallied seven runs on six hits and two walks. West threw in some gas on the fire by committing three errors and having two wild pitches in that
inning.
In the sixth, Lincolnton tacked on another run. Bartholomew scored on a bases loaded walk.
The Lady Wolves added two more in the seventh behind the hitting of Stroup and Bartholomew.
Charlye Godfrey and Paula Jarrett produced West Lincoln’s only two hits.
On defense for the Lady Rebels, shortstop Kaylon Carpenter played well. She made several fine plays.
Barrett struck seven LHS batters.
With the win, the Lady Wolves improve to 2-0 in Midwest 2-A Conference play while West is still looking for that initial win.
