Bandys rocks Wolves, 11-0

STEVE KAY, LTN Sports Correspondent

March 20, 2002 - CATAWBA — The Lincolnton baseball team ran into a Bandys buzz saw Tuesday.

The Trojans’ pitching ace Chris Harvey struck out eight while tossing a four-hit shutout. Harvey joined in on the Bandys bat party too. He had three hits to lead Bandys to a 11-0 win.

Lincolnton sent Luis Arce out to face the Trojans. Arce struggled with his control and location.

“I just couldn’t get the ball down tonight,” the senior right-hander said. “I was falling behind and (not throwing the ball low) which is easier to see and hit.”

Other LHS pitchers, Justin Keever and Randall Chambers also didn’t have much luck with Bandys’ batters.

The Trojans scored four runs in the first inning. They got four hits and drew two walks in the inning including a  big two-run double from Matt Howard.

More of the same occurred in the second inning. The Trojans rapped out six hits and scored three runs including two that came on a two-run single from Dee Clark.

Harvey got his RBI single in the third as the Trojans added more wood to the fire. They plated three more runs.

Zach Elliott smacked a home to left to highlight the Bandys offensive show.

Bandys, the No. 7 2-A team in the Baseball America/N.C. Coaches Poll increased its record to 8-1 and got its first conference win.

Lincolnton (4-4) hopes to regroup against at Maiden tonight at 7 p.m.

Friday the Wolves hope to their first league win when they host Bunker Hill at 7 p.m.
